Trying to stay competitive while giving some young guns and AAAA types a go.
We shut down Donnie Greene for the season after an injury. Rhett Erickson is out with a torn labrum. Riccardo Bollati is able to return after missing the whole season with shoulder inflammation, but we're just going to let him take the season off and rest.
We're holding auditions for 1999 bullpen roles.
We stuck Lucca Memmoli in left field in August to see what we had with Hector Padilla and Yoshinaka Toiguchi.
Not only have Padilla and Toiguchi been crushing the ball -- 148 OPS+ and 130 OPS+, respectively -- but Memmoli went on a tear. He put up a 1.045 OPS in August and has actually been a capable left fielder. Not sure what we have there yet.
Nice to see Dave Watkins recognized as the IL ROTM. It's been a fairly rude introduction for him this season, but he put together a fine August to bring his season-long numbers up to a respectable level. Hopefully a strong September will get him primed for next season. That's how these things work, right?

That or a sophmore slump?

In response to Jake asking where the Powell wheel will stop after Pawtucket sent him to Washington.

Always tough to decide whether to bring your guys up or let them finish the AAA Playoffs. There has to be some growth involved when they win championships, BLB level or otherwise.
If there's interest, I may propose the AAA season ending sooner this offseason.
