    Spoiler

Some notes as we close in on the stretch run...

    16-10 in August.

Brad Hayes has pitched himself back into shape after his injury knocked him out most of the season. He's 3-0 with a 2.84 ERA in August and is looking like last season's allstar SP.

Brad Sanford continues to hold down the #6 spot with a 4.04 ERA in Lindsey's absence. He doesn't have the wins to show for it, but his 10.0 VORP is pretty good for a guy who spent the majority of 1993-1997 in the minors before getting another shot.

The Skipper returns on Wednesday to a Pawtucket sammich. He'll knock off some rust against the Patriots and then play a huge 4 game set against Maine before finishing up with two more home games against Pawtucky.

1-5. Nothing new to see here except that Pete Fitzgerald is still so new he isn't angry yet and tanking.

Blah! 2-4 but did get a nice complete game shut out from Thompson. Some of these guys may need to be polishing up their resumes when the season is over

A moment only Pat can make happen....

                Perfect Game for Sting Rúbio
Friday, August 28th, 1998: One of the rarest feats in baseball occurred in the Bush League today. A perfect game!

At Champions Ballpark Junior Rúbio of the Eugene Sting faced 27 batters and retired every one of them in order in his 4-0 victory. There were no runs, no hits, no errors, no walks and no one got on base as he struck out 6 bewildered Orlando Blackbirds in a remarkable pitching performance.

"This was one of those games where a good athlete was on top of his game," said his manager afterward. "He had a tremendous rhythm out there. His focus, his concentration, his stuff, everything was as good as it could possibly be."

Rúbio took all the accolades and attention in stride. "A game like this was pretty special. It doesn't come along very often. But winning the game is the main thing."

Late in the game, Rúbio sat by himself at one end of the dugout, staring at the ground with his eyes half-closed. No one would come near him, afraid of jinxing him. It is baseball superstition that no one in the dugout mentions a no-hitter -- much less a perfect game -- until it is completed.

When it was over, Rúbio simply pumped his fist, but his teammates were more excited. This was an historic game for all of them. They mobbed him and the fans gave him a standing ovation for his great game.

So far this season Rúbio has a 10-5 record with a 2.31 ERA.
For the record.... Rubio is 30...in A ball

                  Was that a playoff game?

We should really implement an age limit at the lower levels.

I wonder how much that might affect a younger player's development.

It's probably minuscule but still, 30 in A ball?

Granted, I probably have guys a little too old there too.

The last time I brought up a low minors with age limits it got shot down.

if someone in the minors is upset about "team performance" does that mean the minor league team he is on or does that have to do with the major league team?

I think it's their own minor league club.

I don't think OOTP's players understand what's happening in the parent club. The only time they actually care about the parent club is when they believe they should be in the majors/BLB.

Correct. And if desire to win is very high it can slightly impact their development.

Our lead couldn't be more tenuous. Most of our trends are moving in the wrong direction. If this team blows it in September I'm going to be ever so cross.
