News: First-Year Player Draft Monday, June 15th, 1998: The Brewers League Baseball baseball moguls will be maneuvering, conniving and cajoling today to get the pick of the litter in this year's amateur draft. They will be drooling and salivating over the new pups available in the rookie player draft. Indianapolis, Pittsburgh, Windy City, Washington and Denver have plenty to bark and yelp about, since they will have the first five picks. In the opinion of most baseball experts, these are the most highly prized players in the 1998 draft:

      1. Colin Cash, 18 year-old left fielder out of high-school. 2. Abraham Santana, 17 year-old catcher out of high-school. 3. Geoff Mumme, 18 year-old shortstop out of high-school. 4. Robby Dwyer, 18 year-old starting pitcher out of high-school. 5. Lorenzo Campos, 21 year-old starting pitcher out of college. 6. Javier Gonzalez, 21 year-old starting pitcher out of college. 7. Ricky Adame, 21 year-old right fielder out of college. 8. Zack Mueller, 21 year-old starting pitcher out of college. 9. Shane Carroll, 21 year-old starting pitcher out of college. 10. Tom Willhoite, 21 year-old starting pitcher out of college.

      Coincidence? ????

A nice way to into Claycation, as the Tobs go 5-1.

We could still really use Deleon to step it up, he's not hitting this season. As that saying goes around here, water finds its level, and I still think his level is pretty high.

Hamilton and the two old guys, Guzman and Romo, stepped it up for us this week and we still scored some runs. The Faulkner/Cervantes platoon in CF is still doing well.

We pitched really well this sim, with all of my starters putting up pretty good numbers. I'm still looking to make moves here, but these guys are all having solid years.

On the farm, Manny Mendez's rehab is going well and he's ready to come back. Burns struck out 15 in 7.1 innings, including the first 7 batters of the game. I need to make room for these two.

          Seriously, Pat.

Did you REALLY think Clay was going to let you gloat about winning The Stout in the new millennium?

I was looking at this amazing run by Bayer and just wondering can anyone of you baseball buffs tell me how Bayer has 0 ERA despite giving up a solo HR on 5/20?

I have no idea how is #1. OSA doesn't really care for him...my scout kinda likes him. Please explain how he's first.

                Likely scenario:

                Two outs in the inning.

Third hitter reaches base via error.

All runs following are now unearned as inning should have been over.

Bayer gives up a two-run shot.

Notice you said solo shot but he has two unearned runs credited against him.

There is no explanation but that OSA has the worst rating system in the world.

Okay, to be fair, OSA is probably looking at his high school stats which are ridiculously good.

Bayer's 2nd Unearned Run was this SIM.

Don't read anything into that list. Its BS almost every year. It always overvalues 1Bs with nice stats. Usually like a 50-70% match to our draft. I don't have Cash as a Top 50. Barely a Top 100 maybe.

                      Hmm, you are right.

My next guess is the hitter should have been out earlier in the at-bat. Perhaps on a dropped fly or pop up in foul ground.

As a result, when the hitter hit the home run, the run is now unearned as that hitter should have been out.

But that would have advanced the runner to 1B.

This was a solo shot so no one could have been on base.

I'm 99% sure the hitter's at-bat was extended by an error in foul ground. Later in the at-bat, he hit a home run. Unearned run.

What a difference a sim makes! Narrowly averted a sweep by the Mohawks, and dropped two more to the Bats. Lost a Catcher to injury, but gained an emergency SP from the Waiver wire.

C'mon guys... We can't afford a prolonged slump.

                              Pawtucket 4-2.

Bullpen is still a mess, but 4 games out so no complaints.

Lost a top 100 (Willie Gomez), but Shreader LEAPS to n# 80? Not the greatest minor league system, but least some players exist.
