Already had a year long injury. Has awful intangibles. And for a college prospect, not the largest sample size.
Abnormal looked like an obvious choice, but that injury and those intangibles just weren't worth the risk. Huge payoff if it works out though.

The draft is a crap shoot anyway, even for players with amazing intangibles. I like the pick.

I don't put a ton into intangibles to be honest. They're icing if anything. I took into consideration he had that injury. Then my scout says he just took a ratings bump before this season. And so far he's dominating this season, easily his best. Gotta swing for the fences when you pick this high.

Denver takes SP Zack Mueller from Oregon State.

Mueller was number one on our board. He has some control concerns, but my scout actually believes he'll be average in that area. What we like most is his ability to keep the ball in the park - with both his potential movement and existing groundball percentage - and solid intangibles.

Made the move up because Washington was threatening to take the guy I wanted.

I really like Mueller. He was the highest rated player on my board.

But I had to take the deal. Went with Campos. Looks solid.

Oh, I'll probably regret not taking him in a few years when Neal's still in AAA.

Mueller was the guy I struggled with when I made my pick. Really glad I'll get such a close look at his progress...

Pick is in. I liked all of the starters you guys took by the way (Carroll was the top of my board FYI). Unfortunately, none of the remaining arms were ahead of the guy I took, young 17 year old catcher Abraham Santana.

Santana is raw and will take a few years to reach the show but he's a phenomenal talent according to my scouts. He's easily the best position player in the draft for me. Potential wise, there's no catcher in the league that compares to him. It's lofty, but my scout compares his potential to that of Sergio Lumar. I know its a stretch to compare a 17 year old to a Hall of Famer but I think this guy could be that good. He's also an elite defensive catcher as well which doesn't hurt.

Neal was my #2. My top five pitchers were taken 1-5, but I'm glad I got the guy I thought was #1.

Doesn't mean he'll be a superstar. I usually draft guys that become good pitchers, but never great pitchers. Unless their name is TJ Cook or Jeremiah Gray. Then they just get hurt.

I was set on takin Mueller because at least by what I saw I thought Carroll was the sure fire #1. So when he wasn't chosen first I had talked myself into Mueller being my guy especilly with his movement and GB in my park. But i stepped away and reminded myself why I thought Carroll was #1 and made the pick. Glad that at least 3 out of the top 5 got the guy who they would have taken with the #1 pick.

...is something I would say just to get a reaction from the forum.

Tomorrow (maybe). I haven't even built my board yet.

Speaking of the draft, thinking about proposing a rule change where playoff teams automatically have the last 8 picks. Think that's just how it should be.
