Baltimore Bulldogs (10-9, 1st in Porter)
1-6 for the week
The Good
Not much associated with the Bulldogs was very good this past week. Wade Coates had a pretty good week despite only going 1-1 for the week. The 25 year old threw 16 K in the 2 games with a 1.69 ERA. Another bright spot for this past week was the play of aging star, Kyoden Kubota. Kubota went 8/20 for the week with a 1.080 OPS. So far this year, Kyoden has been our most consistent batter and seems to love batting cleanup.
The Bad
Pretty much everything else and our normally rock solid bullpen was especially disappointing. Our starters went 1-3 with a 3.99 ERA, while our bullpen went 0-3 with a 4.97 ERA and 1.89 WHIP. I'm not sure how much of this should be attributed to our pitching and how much should credit should be given to the California offense, but I'm sure its some combination of the two.
The Ugly
Our infield hit terribly. Geoff Scott, Sze Zhu, and Brad Antell went a combined, 7 for 49 and were the key reasons our offense couldn't get going and we are going to need a lot more from these guys if we'd like to keep our spot at the top of the Porter.
The Minors
I'm very interested in following the case of Robby Williams (AA). Drafted in the 3rd round of the 1995 draft, Williams took 3 years in Single A ball of struggling and has now seemed to put a little together. I was afraid that his stats would suffer but he's been lights out of late and I've finally given him the green light to move to AA. Looking forward to seeing if he can continue to grow.
The Injured
Two key players should return from injury this week, future HOF, Everado Gremades and All-Star closer, Danny Rodriquez. Both of these guys were injured in pre-season and while Gremades will head straight to the bigs, Rodriquez spent the last week in Annapolis (AAA) trying to work off any rust.
