Was expecting a bad start to the season... especially when I noticed Virginia was first up on the docket.

Having said that... I can't but feel a bit disappointed that we didn't win the series with the Colonials.

Hopefully we'll get on the winning track next week.

The 'Kings of March' roll it into April. Can't say I saw that offensive explosion. It's nice to have cool stats for one week.

Art Yeandle is batting .714 and still can't get a player of the week nod. Good news is his team mate snagged the honors. Well it was fun for one week. Time to get back to reality.

I did see a Herberholtz vs. McCarty matchup coming up this week. Both players drafted in the first round the same year. Both came up through the minors together. Now after the recent trade they will face eachother as foes for the first time. Looks like he's off to a good start too.

Pawtucket 3-3. Yoshino & Mcdonald looked solid to start the year. Rob Johnson is on a real short leash right now. Might see Cosio up sooner than later.

On the funny side of sports, nice to see Abbot get his first injury joining Pawtucket. I'm sure its a career ender

                You and me both, brother.

                Pitching showed up. Expected.

Did not expect half the names to hit as poorly as they did.

1-5 is tough but we lost some close, low scoring games. It's not the result we want, but if the offense can get going, then we should be all right.

Two series wins and no injuries. Boom.

Making his first BLB start since June of last season, RJ Curtis got the season started right in our home opener by fanning a club-record 13 Bulls in 8 innings. His adrenaline was evident from the start as he struck out 7 of the first 11 batters he faced.

Isn't taking on the Bulls more like a rehab assignment?

McCarthy's BLB debut was great. Keifer put in two solid starts. Starters era 2.48 for first sim Saw that Ming Er lit it up . He is making his home coming next sim.

Nice start to the season, 5-1 with a sweep over Wilmington and series win over the reigning champs. I like the way we looked against two pretty good IL teams, especially since both Shitty and Rodriquez are both out.

                              Notes:

-Derek Vleugel and Eric Keifer (WIL) will be forever linked as the #1 and #2 picks from the infamous 1994 draft, and Vleugel won their first meaningful head to head meeting. Vleugel went 2-0 for the week with a 2.57 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and a league leading 16K's. Keifer also had a very good week and it looks like the next generation of pitchers is (are?) finally here. I look forward to seeing how these two young arms compare as the years go on.

-Obviously, Geoff Scott didn't listen to the prognosticators that said he was done. Scott hit .412, with a 1.062 OPS, a double and triple (which are hard to come by in Baltimore) this past week, invoking memories of years past in the Porter. I'm not going to lie though, I closed my every time he slid into a base or made a diving play. This is going to be a long season.

-Antonio Trujillo hit .182 for the week. But he also had a league leading 11 RBI, including a grand slam that broke the spirits of the confident Colonials and sent the champs home with a losing week. Looks like he could have a pretty big year if everyone stays healthy ahead of him.

All in all, very impressed with how we opened the season.
