Maybe. I wouldn't count Los Alamos out just yet.

I agree. I just think LAM and CAR will beat eachother up.

Arent they in first place? Its Carolina & Wash going for the Wildcard now.

That being said, Washington has a ton of game left with Wilmington & Morgantown!!!
Carolina didnt really setup they're 40 man roster for this run.

Yes they are but I just think Los Alamos has flown under the radar for far too long. When they beat us in the playoffs, I don't want anyone to think it was a surprise.

                  Oscar Lerma (1B)

-Drafted in the 3rd round of the 1995 draft, may one day prove to be one of the better hitters of the year. At just 20 years old, Lerma still has a lot of time to grow. A chance to see what he's got at the top level with Joe Rojas out with injury, we'll see if Lerma is really ready or does he need a little more seasoning.

                  Colin Reed (2B)

-A 2nd round pick in 1996, Reed is pegged to be our eventual replacement for Geoff Scott, Reed has shown the ability to go yard, but the average isn't there yet. I hoped to get him just a little experience here and there and give Scott some rest, but it looks like he may just be on our playoff roster.

                    IF Ian Morrow

Our '96 1.17 pick gets his first taste of the majors. The Javelinas brass were happy to draft the former Seminole, even though the league analysts and commentators seemed disinterested. Javelinas Manager Mezian Nyamekye wants to start him, but the GM has opted to bring him off the bench to spell Garcia at 3B and Wetton at SS. Morrow started the year in AA but played his last 67 games with the AAA affiliate Boulder City Big Horns. His batting line there was .298/.375/.423. Our scout thinks he has HOF potential, despite not being particularly discriminating at the plate.

Pat Bryant - The 3rd rated prospect in the league and easily our best pitching prospect since Manny Mendez, perhaps better. Acquired via the Rex Knight deal with Hartford back in 1995, "Wildfire" has done just about all he can do in the minors. He'll likely spend September in the bullpen, but may get a start or two, depending on injuries and such. As this guy develops, so will our organization.

J.P. Johnston - The 13th rated prospect int he league. We're hoping he settles in as a number 2 behind Bryant, but he'd make a great innings eater in the 3rd spot of the rotation. A 2nd rounder in 1996, J.P. has moved through the minors quickly. Not a strikeout guy, but he's shown great control in the minors. Really hoping on this guy.

John Dunbar - Not a big time prospect by any means, but I've had an interest in John since he was picked up as a minor league FA in 1992. We threw him in the rotation and watched as he threw a no-hitter in (I believe) his second start with the organization. Since moving to AAA in 1995, John's adapted nicely as a closer. With a plus fastball/curve combo, and high 90's heat, Dunbar should fit in nicely at the back end of the bullpen for years to come.

Alex Gonzalez - Picked up in the 2nd round in 1996, Alex profiles as a league average catcher, maybe more. OSA loves him, my scout likes him. Made the top 100 once, ranking number 92 in 1997. He's above average behind the dish, and can hit, though he's regressed at each level. To be fair, he's moved quickly, playing only 258 games in the minors.

Alexis Camilo - Camilo has been up for a bit, but I didn't get him on the list, so we'll add him now. Also included in the Rex Knight deal, Alexis topped out at #9 on the top prospect list earlier this year. He's a middle of the order guy, and will hopefully hit for power and average, while drawing his share of walks without striking out too much. In fact, through nearly 50 games, he's walking more than he's K'ing, so he has that going for him. A big key to our offense, and team core, for that matter.

It's interesting you consider that the Rex Knight deal and I think of it as the Raul Gonzalez deal. Gonzalez has been the anchor to our rotation since we acquired him. Without him we probably get squeezed out of the playoffs more than once.

I thought Camillo would be good when I drafted him, but I'm a bit surprised how much further he developed.

Raul Gonzalez is a stud. When his story is told, it will be interesting to note that he was involved in two major deals for Hall of Famers - Moving from VIR to IND in the "Shitty" deal.... then moving from IND to HAR in the Knight deal.

I agree about Gonzalez. I guess I saw Knight as the face of my organization at the time, so it'll always be the Rex Knight deal to me, lol. Plus, I think Rex's name is instantly more recognizable to the other owners than Gonzalez.
