I think the first guys simply require the recognition when you say the name. We all know who we are talking about when we say Pancho. I'd say Albert is a current example in MLB, and I think Theo and George even though they're not players.

It's mostly nicknames and last names though.

Ahhhh... but old-timers like me hear Albert and think Albert Belle before Pujols.

However... I think I may have a MLB example.... I'm going Sammy. Sure a lot of people called him by his last name... or full name.... but isn't he the only SAMMY you think of? #ItsSooooooReal

Re MLB "first namers": Mick. I think that qualifies as a first name (Mick is to Mickey as Don is to Donald).
