I think one of the more interesting developments over the last few years, particularly in the fields of social media, is the cheapening of thoughts and feelings. I have very few people that I would call friends. But now the notion of "friendship" has been sullied by Facebook and its ilk. People have 1,000s of "friends." It used to mean something when you said you "like" something. Now people like everything indiscriminately.

Things that used to mean something no longer mean anything. It's like all notions of conviction and accountability have been removed and everything is one big melting pot of liking and friending, all of which means, ultimately, nothing. One big, gray, malaise.
I see what you did there.

“I’m wary about this thing about being in the generation of social networking where people are like, ‘I am my musical taste.’ I am not just a collection of music. Or a collection of movies. Just because somebody likes something doesn’t mean… anything, really.”

And here I thought I was starting to get old. It's always good to know I can come here and have everything put back into perspective.
