  • Really like both bats I've grabbed in this draft. Herrera was the top bat on my list behind Luna and he plays a valuable infield position. My scout thinks he already has 5 contact so he should be a solid player immediately. My 2nd round pick is interesting, Mike Jimenez. He's a solid two-way player who has great potential as an OF or a starting pitcher. He put up great numbers in both roles and I'm debating where to put him.

OSA loves Jimenez while Herrera is not too fondly evaluated for what its worth.

Jimenez also comes in with a defensive rating for a Pitcher. May be one of THOSE guys.

I have one in my system. Dabbled in the bullpen briefly... now plays IF exclusively.

Not sure it adds value... just an interesting OOTP thing.

      • I've got a guy that I got from Pawtucket. He's been advancing at a snail's pace since being moved to the infield. But I guess the operative word is advancing.

        • After injuries ruined TJ Cook, at times I wonder if it would have been best to convert him to an IF. He had a good bat (likely regressed by now. Haven't checked). Even gave him some at-bats in the BLB level.

My scout had him as the second best player in the draft. Since I've been burned by International guys before... I had no interest in him till he fell to me with my second pick in the second round. Felt that was a good time to take a chance that he somehow does hit his projected ratings.

                Same here.

My first 8 draft picks in 1995 were internationals and I'm betting that no less than 5 of those will be decent to above-average BLB players.

I like Larivee again you picked my guy right before me. Scouts must see the same stuff. Another good pick (IMO).

And you pick in front of both my comp. picks. Shit. Cant shake you this draft.

Good pick. He was the a top 20 pick on my scouts board. I almost grabbed him at 2.7 but decided to gamble on Ybarra's potential.

Like both of these picks. Almost took Goeman with my pick earlier in this round. But I hate HS pitchers even more than I hate international players.

                        • FWIW - Larivee was almost my 1.24 and would have been my 2.24.

The way most of you feel about internationals is how I feel about high school players. The only way I draft high school players is..........

                            if they are internationals.

                              29 picks ahead of me.

They all can't go can they?

                              • Sorry for the delay, though I'm not exactly sure how long I was on the clock.

I ended up going with reliever Troy Saxe from the Cape League. He looks like a pretty decent relief prospect to me and from what I saw there wasn't a ton out there that I really loved with this pick. In general, I like his ratings and his stats in the Cape league, though it isn't too exciting of a pick.

Last night I took 1B Colin Anderson from the high school league. Like most high school players, he's miles away from being a contributor and will likely struggle in A ball. But, I see a guy who could hit for a decent average with good power if it works out. I could always move someone else to 1B, but I don't have much in the way of 1B prospects in my system, even if Anderson is really raw.
