  • Pick is in.

It was a toss-up between SP Earley and OF Bennerman. We haven't had a decent pitcher in our minors since...well...forever. My scout and the OSA seem to agree he has potential, and we (like everyone else) have a plethora of outfielders right now.

    Only time will tell.

    • Some people hated the scouts differing takes for years... then the last few seasons people cooled off on the whole "no surprises" thing.

      Pick your poison.

No real life draft, save for the 1933 NFL draft, the 1987 BLB Draft, or the 2012 Bikini Hockey League draft, would have so many differing opinions on who would be top 5-10 picks.
Well to be fair, only 1 pick in the Top 5 was an outlier. The others were all Top 10 worthy according to my scout. Actually, 1, 3, 4, 8, 9, 10, 15, 18, and 21 are gone.

        • Of the top 7 guys I had quickly come up with before the draft to set my list, 6 of them were picked after I took Velasquez. It's not the exact order I would have expected, but only one real surprise in there. Since then, most of these picks have been guys I might have targeted at 23 from what I can tell.

At least for this draft, it seems like a good mix between the two. Plus, you have to factor in everyone's fear to swing and miss on an international.

Speaking of "mix" have you had any guys that were not even in the top 100 get picked? Lol, my scout is perhaps crazy.

Nah. #62 is as low as we've gone so far.

                • Went with Ruben Sostre for our 2nd #1 pick. Had him graded as the last decent SP left before a slide. He's INT but 22 so shouldn't have to wait too long to see what we have. We just are gonna keep stockpiling SP's and hope some of them are legit. There was one hitter I almost jumped on but feel SP's are going down the toilet quick so was wiser to nab one now.

Sostre would be in a couple of rotations the day after the draft.

#111. Even though I normally don't have a first round I generally follow along. If anything this one has been fun to watch.

I disagree, but Driscoll would be.

                            • I think people are doing themselves a disservice with this whole "scouts ranking" thing. If you're having the scout generate a draft list and then just numbering the guys, you're not reading the lists correctly.

Well, I certainly have no track-record of identifying talent.

Oh for sure, was simply stating the lowest scout rated pick that had come off his board.
