I can't believe after last years meltdown you still wanna pick on the little guys in Batavia.

Didn't we all learn 1st half baseball means nothing...much less 1st month?

By all means though don't let me discourage you from your write-ups! I enjoyed them last year until you went 30-50 after the All-Star game and spent the last half of your season drinking in the broom closet.

      Boom.

        Batavia: #6 in payroll
        Baltimore: #16 in payroll

Sorry, son. You've grown out of the pullups and are in big boy pants now.

1st half baseball means nothing? That sounds like something last place teams say.

Even ignoring the fact that the payroll arguments never held any water (budgets had a small argument, but payroll is a choice). BUT...You can't play the #16 payroll card when you backdoored a huge chunk of Knight's salary. It doesn't tell the true story.

          That being said...

I've heard this said about baseball before and it's pretty truthful. "You can almost never win a pennant race in the first month but you can always lose one."

Of course this was the fake stuff on TV so take it with a grain of salt.

I only prepaid a total of 5M in the final two years of his contract. I'm not sure when that would ever be considered "a huge chunk" of a 5 yr, 60M contract.

The fact that payroll is a choice is irrelevant. My point has always been that success, and by extension budgetary growth, can be achieved through shrewd trading and good minor league development.

The irony of it all is that Batavia is the poster child for successful budgetary growth with this method.

Hey, you can guys can have the whole "I'll win it in September" thing. I'd much rather take the good record early and let everyone else play catchup.

But now that I think about it, this is fake stuff on a computer so…

You've got to break a few eggs to make the perfect championship team. Or something...
