    1997 Shavermetrics

    DISCLAIMER: These were run before Opening Day. Jake and I were going to do them as a Podcast, but couldn't work out the scheduling. Jake was great trying to make it happen, but schedules just got all screwed up over the weekend. We are going to look at some other Media outlets in the future.

    As always... this is a snapshot of time. SHAVERMETRICS can not factor in injuries, trades or bad management. We have not factored in the results from the 1st Two Weeks of the Season.

    WAIT....

    Before we start... I'd like to quickly revisit SHAVERMETRICS 1996....

    Here are how the Playoffs went in 1996 with the SHAVERMETRICS power rating....

    Dallas (19T)
    Pittsburgh (8)
    Los Lunas (9)
    Hartford (4)

    Virginia (5)
    Batavia (3)
    Washington (7)
    Carolina (2)

    Dallas, on the surface, looks like a big miss, but remember, someone had to win that division... so I'm taking partial credit. They were picked to finish 2nd in their division to Syracuse.

    Davenport was #6 and just missed out on the Playoffs.

    The biggest swing and miss was Pawtucket. SHAVERMETRICS had them at #1. That's the reason we put the disclaimer about "bad management".

    Last year I agreed with us being a lower tier team. This year I think we have the talent to contend for the Porter. I can't believe that the addition of Shitty, Hill and Sanchez keeps us at #17.

      Yeah, but I kind of see SHAVERMETRICS in tiers. This year it's very fat in the middle (like Diesel's 2a jumpoffs)... from around 7-17(T) I kind of see as that 2nd tier... those are the teams that could really outperform or underperform their number.

          Very possible, although this team was 12 games out of first place with your "snapshot" roster. The June trades were pretty much out of desperation.

              We fill more middle of the pack than our 20th showing. Guess you're factoring in bad management. What you didn't weigh (and couldn't have known) is I've secretly placed a fern in charge of the team this season.

                Virginia 6th??? Need to see this new age math someday.

                Virginia / Hartford, maybe Carolina if the youth grows up some.

                  I really think that overall, Batavia has the deepest/best team in the IL.

                  The top end talent obviously isn't as high. But when you factor in the quality of Batavia's bullpen, they are a better overall squad to me. Plus the fact that someone other than Washington and VA may be competitive in the Stout this year(I'm looking at you Tom), it should be an interesting year.

                    Clay did you ever get my Lager writeup?

                    As for being #1...heck ya. We're deep...deep like the mind of Minolta. As for it turning into onfield performance well let's see if we can hit more that .212 for the season and have a 6th pitcher who's ERA is sub 15.00!

                              We're over rated, but higher than Pawtucket so that's good enough to us. Also I don't see how Virginia is so low. Let's see what happens.
