  • 1997 Draft Discussion

Last year a few guys asked for my draft sheet - or how I got it to automatically "cross off" guys who were drafted. I figured I'd start the discussion by attaching my sheet from last year, although I deleted all my formulas and scout ratings, etc.

Basically I copy and paste from the utility into a tab named "Names" and that pulls the draft position into my main list with the VLOOKUP function... then highlights if a player was drafted with the conditional formatting option in excel.

Figured it might help a couple of you. Hopefully it just confuses Carlos.

As long as it works, I don't care how it works.

Either I am still not getting this game or the draft looks weak.

There are so many INTL guys in this draft, I get the feeling it's going to feel a bit "old school" with widely varying opinions on a lot of them.

The draft looks about 8-10 feeder league players deep that have a chance to make an impact as either position players or SP. We pick 8th overall so we're ok with the shallow draft talent.

            Okay, so serious questions.

I downloaded the dmg file. I installed it.

            So, take us step-by-step.

You have the draft utility screen open.

You open a new tab on the browser? What next?

Yea. I have a feeling that I'm going to swing and miss on my 2nd round pick this year. Usually my scout likes some of the internationals, but he is not too excited about many of them this year.

Untimed first round until Monday? Make the weekend fun?

My scout sees 13 first-round quality players. A clear #1 and #2. #3-#10 are all quality, a dropoff right after. Might be closer to ten first-round quality players.... I pick 14th....

I got three secound rounders bunched up close together. Hopefully I see two I really like, plus a possible reach. My scout thinks picks 20-40 are pretty much all the same.

Jake, I don't need you to provide a step-by-step on the draft set up. In fact, providing it to me would cause anger and would make me feel that you have treated me with great disrespect.

I would prefer you do as I wish, instead.

edit: Well, realizing now that I downloaded something else the other day - not the spreadsheet. Makes sense.

These International guys are really messing things up this year.

Yes sir. Just so tough to judge, for me anyway. I've never had much luck with them, so I'm staying away with the first pick. Maybe we'll gamble later on, if there are any left.

Sometimes when I open the Draft, if the #1 pick is already queued it won't fire on it's own.

SO.... Indy.... if you want to announce the pick when you know it (if it's before we start tomorrow)... feel free... then I can fire it if it doesn't fire on its own.

No rush though. You get the full clock.

I already know who is going #4 because I doubt anyone takes him in the first three picks and I'm okay with that.
