  • 1997 HOF Voting

It's that time of year again. Hall of Fame Voting is technically open, however please visit the HOF Discussion threads prior to submitting your ballot.

Take your time, review the candidates and submit your ballots here. We need every owner to vote, even if you wish to submit a blank ballot.

Players must be named on 80% of the ballots in order to be inducted (20 of 24 if all teams submit). A player must receive 50% support in order to remain on next year's ballot if he fails to receive enough support for induction. (This year's holdovers are RP Grant Lewis, Jon Cleary - for the 5th time).

Take a moment to review this year's potential class members and feel free to publicly discuss the merits of any player (discussion threads for each player can be found in the Awards/Hall of Fame subforum here. We've set a high bar for induction so no candidate's chances can be taken for granted.

The voting utility will remain open through next Friday 05/11 giving everyone ample time to vote. If you don't vote your name goes on a list. Clay looks at the list and then has bad thoughts about you.

    Good luck gentlemen!

He's on there now. Let me know if you (or anyone) needs a ballot reset.

6 more teams need to vote. Please make it happen. Even if you choose to submit a blank ballot, please vote.

Travesty what's happening to Harry Elliot. 4th best OBP of all time and he's not even going to get a sniff at the HOF?

The man led the Kodiaks to a BLB Championship for goodness sakes!

He got a sniff from me (and not just because he's coaching in my minors). He's borderline HOF to me, but deserved a vote IMO.

Elliot was good, but I wasn't convinced he was great. My problem is he had no defensive ability and only made six all-star teams despite being an offensive catcher. That just struck me as odd.

Sure he could hit for average and get on-base, but I wanted more.

I'll never understand the romanticism with All-Star appearances in baseball.

Well since we vote I find it means more in this league and the suggestion is that a guy should be a Hall of Famer when we the voters only thought he was good enough to represent his league six times.

                        That's not odd to you?

Elliott was very good, but he finished with the fourth best VORP among BLB catchers.

He did so largely based on longevity, and his defense was always suspect.

                          Not good enough for me.

Not really. All-Star appearance only judge half of a season's work. But again that's the human element involved, just like in RL. Some people vote based on the guys peak years and ignore longevity. Longevity is a big factor for me. Some people look at # of All-Star appearances. Those don't factor in as much to me.
