The Off-Season Center is pretty cool. Should be easy to track once we get into FA.
Another interesting thing I found fiddling around in my team. Player contract demands on extensions have a little new life. Only once have I had a player accept an extension before their final season. Now it seems more common for them to chat two years out. I was looking at Pancho, who is locked up through 98 is already ready to talk new deal. In addition, there seems to be no real governor on demand. His 1st propsal is a 9 year extension. I've never seen a player ask for more than 5 before. Someone wants to be a Colonial for life.
I don't care who he is and what he's done, the prospect of signing anyone for nine years, especially a pitcher, would scare me to death.
I agree. Pitchers over 35 should be on short deals IMO. That being said, I will undoubtedly make Pancho a very rich offer for years 30-35. However, with the CAP going away in 98. Locking him down at a very, very fair rate even for 9 years feels like a decent gamble.
I'm interested in seeing how he reacts to your offer.
Would a guy like Pujols have taken $30 MM a year for a 6 year-deal? Or would he have been adamant the deal be for 10 years even if it's for slightly less per year?
I just wonder how guys handle it in OOTP 12. I haven't really experimented. Like Dave said: the prospect of signing someone for 9 or 10 years is scary. I did it for Zamarida and it ended up saving me money because he could have easily made closer to $20 MM per if he was a free agent during his very good 7-year run. But, of course, he wasn't the same player for years 8-10.
But would this be the norm if super-star players demand deals be for that long? We may not have a choice.

I've heard, not seen yet, that 12 has a more give and take to negotiations. I will likely not dip my toe in the Pancho pool until I have a few contract negotiations under the belt.
