Perhaps these are trade secrets but it should be knowledge possessed by every team by now: you don't always need money to sign popular players.

When does popularity update, Have yet to notice anyone change. If I were a fan Keifer would be someone I would want to go out to see.

High picks will often start with a little bump and continue to grow in the minors. Keifer is already "Insignificant" in Local - which doesn't sound great, but it's a sign that he's got some attention. From there, it's really news worthy events. All-Star games. Awards (weekly, monthly, yearly). I believe news worthy accomplishments give some small bump too (big games, streaks, etc.).

Clay is right. But also, sometimes some guys are popular as players for no reason at all.

I've had guys in my minor league system with great popularity that never amounted to a darn thing. Some guys just have a high popularity rating from the second they are created by the game.

But as I've said, you're in a position where scouring free agency and the waiver wire is vitally important. It's not about wins and losses when you're trying to rebuild. It's about finding little diamonds in the rough. Taking chances. Finding those players that might boost attendance.

And sometimes neither is the case. SS Dusty Simmons just got a huge popularity boost, he was fair nationally and locally and went to Well Known. It did nothing to change my fan interest. Maybe it will take effect in the new year...

For those interested (ie: Linty) two-time All-Star reliever and member of the 1987 Brewmaster's Championship team Joe Negron - who is 10th in appearances - is now looking for a job as a Pitching Coach.

Joe Negron famously set records for appearances as a reliever.

In 1988, he appeared in 100 games breaking Tim Pardue's record of 93 appearances in 1984. (Note: Negron was one of three relievers to break Pardue's record in '88 but finished ahead of the last two and was the first reliever in BLB history to reach the century mark).

In 1989, he broke his own record by appearing in 103 games for California. The record has since been broken by Armando Ureste.

With the way our rotation is we couldn't afford to lose him to FA. I think I was the first casualty of 12 as he wasn't asking for that type of contract on OOTP 11.

Are we using ghost rosters now? I see a lot of "Jim Unknowns" in the database.
