Either Wilkerson (playoff injury to hamstring was death of him - started to lose ratings after that... though some could say it was just natural progression) or Rod Phillips.California Kodiaks - GM - 1982-2013

I don't understand what happened to Pat Gates. I loved him as a prospect, he came up and won New Brew and seemed like a guy I could count on in the middle of my lineup going forward. The next season, his ratings fell substantially and he wasn't quite as good. And then 1994 rolled around and my scout didn't even see him as a BLB quality player anymore. He sucked in Spring Training and never found any of his prior form after being sent down. I finally released him about a month ago and nobody has picked him up.
Luckily Ismael Reyes has done well enough to cover up that hole. I guess based on sheer number alone, some of the guys in my system had to work out.
Shawn Gates pissed me off more. He put up two really good years in the BLB, looked to be a good #2 starter for me. A first round pick, highly ranked prospect. I guess it was injuries that did him in, but I always like to blame it on us switching versions. A few teams have tried to use him since then, with little success.Washington Bats, 2013-

Speaking of lefties, this leads to our sad "what could of been" tale.
RF Darryl Calhoun. A "hard working, loyal, smart" lefty. Wasn't as well known as some of the stars on the 93 & 94 for teams, but seemed going into the 95 season, Darryl was ready to take his game up to the next level.
For 2 seasons he grew:
93- one DL player of the week, Rookie player of the month (June) .289 average, VORP 11.3 in his rookie season.
94- DL player of the week, 20 hrs in 392 ABs, VORP 16.4 in 119 games.
Yep the kid seemed destined to complement the righty heavy Pawtucket family. Then came 95. First he showed up to spring training just not himself.(Ratings drop) After 36 games he was sent to AAA while combating the flu.(yet more drop) From that pt on he never saw the major league ever again. Cut at the end of the 95 season and currently is on his second stint with the Washington AAA squad.
The only recurring theme was his LONG list of injuries that may of taken its toll at such an early age. Maybe he would of made a better DH? Will never know.PAWTUCKET PATRIOTS
