I thought we were probably pitching a little better than we should have been for the first month and a half, but that's corrected now. It's worrisome how often this team is getting lit up and pissing away leads.Washington Bats, 2013-

Baltimore Bulldogs
Week #11 Performance: 3-3
36-34 overall, 1 game lead in the Porter
1-2 vs. Virginia
2-1 vs. Morgantown
-We were able to steal one from The Champs, won the series against a fellow Wildcard contender and remained atop the Porter for one more week. Nothing to complain about there.
The Good
-Derek Vleugel pitched another good one, this time against Morgantown. The 20-year old went seven innings, giving up just one earned run and posted his 2nd 9K performance in the BLB. The kid is 3-0 this year with a 3.33 ERA and is adjusting well to the BLB.
-Rex "Thrifty" Knight didn't have his best week, but he has still continued to re-climb the ladder as one of the top hitters in the game. Starting outside of the Top 20 at the beginning of the year, Rex has moved all the way up to #8, supplanting fellow Bulldog, Kyoden Kubota.
-Speaking of Kyoden Kubota, the former Guide has been notorious for starting the year slowly and 1996 has been no exception. However, the Japanese star went 7/17 with 8 RBI, signaling that he may have finally found his swing for the remainder of the year.
-The Baltimore front office went bargain hunting again, and this time found starting pitcher, Don Woods on the waiver wire. Woods, a former 1st round pick by Washington in 1986, was waived after an 11-year professional career within the Bats' organization. After posting on of the worst starts I've ever seen in Baltimore (against Virginia 1.1 IP, 4 H, 7R, 6 BB), Woods pitched significantly better against Morgantown, going 7 IP, with just 1 ER and 2 BB in the no decision loss, 3-7.
The Bad
-Starting pitcher, Donnie Shilling, may have played his last game as starter in Baltimore, after blowing out his elbow. Shilling, who was 5-3 this year with a somewhat respectable ERA just over 4.00, showed us he could play last year with a .583 QS%. Shilling signed a minor league deal with Baltimore in 1994 after being cut by the Wildcats. The Bulldogs have called up AAA lefty pitcher, Brit Miller to replace Shilling. Miller has going 5-6 with a 3.71 ERA in Annapolis.
Up Next
-Just two weeks until the All-Star game, the Bulldogs start a 6-game road trip against the rest of the Stoutettes, beginning with Wilmington and ending with Washington.
