Carolina Tobs: 5-2 this week (33-18 overall, 1st in Bock)
2-1 at Washington
3-1 vs Los Alamos
Another solid week for my team. We've really been playing well lately. We closed out May with a 20-8 record, best in the IL. Our pyt. record for the month was 21-7, best in the BLB.
Getting a series win on the road in Washington is always tough for us. Coming home to play the Bandits, we lost a tough one in extra innings but we were ok other than that. It's still really early, but we've opened up a bit of lead in this division. Big week coming up on that front.
The Good
-Manny Mendez threw the second no-hitter in franchise history on June 1st. It wasn't a shutout, however, as the Bandits scored on a walk, HBP, error combination. The only other Tob to throw a no-no was Issam Ghaniy back in 1980.
Mendez has been better than I could have hoped so far- 6-2, 1.74 ERA. I thought he might start when I signed him, but I didn't expect this. He's looking like an All-Star.
-Al Hamilton appears to have hit his stride. I said he had been struggling, but he's busted out of that now. This week he went 12/21 (.571) and added 7 walks, posting a .700 OBP for the week. Over the past two sims, he's 25/48, with a line of .521/.617/.771/1.388 and is up to #6 on the Top Players list. Let's all hope he keeps it up.
-Our two main bench bats, Victoriano Rincon and Chan-koo Kim have been fantastic. Kim is hitting .362 with a 1.019 OPS as the 4th outfielder. Rincon has only seen 25 at-bats, but he's made them count with 11 hits (.440 avg), 2 HRs, 10 RBI.
Kim is second among IL rookie hitters with a 7.3 VORP, despite having only 47 ABs.
-The starting pitchers have gotten the job done so far. 4 of my starters are tied for the IL lead in wins with 6, while Doug Howe has 5 wins. My starters have gotten the decision in 45 of our 51 games, which seems like a lot.
The Bad
-The bullpen was pretty disappointing against Los Alamos. We blew leads in back to back games. Raul Reyes didn't pitch well. Raul Frayo gave up his first earned runs of the season against Washington.
-Outside of Hamilton, the other regulars in the lineup were nothing special. It was all about the starting pitchers this week.
Coming Up
-7 more games in a row, all against the Bock. Two games apiece versus Windy City and Davenport and then 3 on the road at Los Alamos. A good week would put us in good position for the division.
Adrian Romero is out for 5 more days. He'll most likely stay on the DL until next week. He's been out since April 28th with a sprained MCL.
