5-1 week and we find ourselves in a familiar position... in first... way too early in the season. We are playing better than I believe we are which again lends its self to the all too familiar collapse late. I will highlight the starting pitching this week.

    Pitchers...

Really solid again this week holding NO and SYR to 16 runs in the six games. Some guys are really playing over their potenial and I expect that to catch up with us.

Ollie Kane- gave us his second 2 hitter in as many weeks. Kane is now 3-1 w/ a 3.72 ERA.

Ramano Jacapino- has jumped to #12 on the Top Players list and at 26 has had to become the ace until Fitz returns. Jaco is now 6-1 w/ a 1.62 ERA.

Nate Taylor- Has gone more than 7+ innings in all six starts this year and three times gone 8.1 or more. He is hot right now but I know Nate enough to know puts it together for short stretches at a time. That's why his two starts this week scare me. Nate is now 3-1 w/ a 2.49 ERA.

Raul Rios- Has been way better through seven games than I could have imagined. We signed him late in FA after striking out on every other pitcher we actually wanted for 720 k. In his seven starts he has done everything he was brought in for (stamina, high GB) but better than I expected him to do it. In four out of seven games he has gone into the 7th or longer and in those games has 11, 11, 12 and 16 GB's. Rios is now 4-1 w/ a 3.12 ERA.

Lonnie Thompson- Signed I believe the first week of ST when I realized I had only 5 SP with none in AAA if one of my guys went down. So we signed Thompson for the league minimum and he started out in A ball for us (signed him sim before computer was down. could not place him for a few sims) then moved to AAA in case we needed him. Well four sims ago he got his chance when Fitz was hurt for 4 months. In four starts he has one real quick outing, 2/3 of an inning, but has only given up 4 total runs in 18 IP. Thompson is now 3-1 w/ a 2.00 ERA.

    Batters...

    Just a couple quick thoughts.
-Three out of six sims a Miller had won batter of the week.

-Congrats to Shitty for the award and the milestone. Was good to see him round back to form after a slow start this season. We get O'fallon back this week which should take some pressure off and not force me to play 2 of my 3 shitty catchers.

-My cathers have been terrible. Tried to give Simms (.179) the starting job but he does not want it. Austin (.200) is so mad from not starting he is a mess. Signed Alvarez (.195) and gave him DH spots this week with O'fallon down and he is ice cold.

This week we play the only non Ale teams in the DL with winning records (Mississippi, Los Lunas). Tough week.

    Prediction: 3-3.

4 - 2 with two series wins against Hartford and Denver. I'll take that every time.

      Pitching
SP Willie Harrison is currently pitching his recently bleached ass off. Don Davis, on the other hand, signed a 3-year extension and suddenly became a #4 or #5 pitcher. Thus far I can't complain too much about my FA pickup, Dani Salcido. And youngster Heriberto Melendez is inconsistent right now, but shows "flashes of brilliance" as they say.

In the pen I'm getting better-than-expected outings from everyone except Uchida; although I may be expecting too much from him. Couldn't be happier with waiver wire guy Pancho Sanchez. Black and Tulun have been lights out.

      Hitting
I'm getting about what I expected from everyone except CF Artie Dickerson. I think last season's injuries have had an impact on his performance thus far. This is especially unwelcome since Donnie Small is essentially lost for the season. I may have to make a move to pick up a decent OF bat. Jud Cobb asked for a contract extension, and then three days later decided he would go FA after the season. What a woman.

        5-1 sim

Swept Denver and took 2/3 from Pawtucket. Still could use better production from the horrendous 3B position but I can't complain overall.
