  • Denver selects CL Zack Hodges.

I was convinced I'd take a hitter in this spot but Hodges kept popping up in my dreams. Something about OSA's feelings on him and my scout's.

His stuff won't be impressive, but I do like that both OSA and Rogacion (a former pitcher mind you) see his movement and control in the 6 or above area. Assuming both over-project, he shouldn't crash to far below that number. I'd be happy if he's a 4-5-5 when it's all said and done. And likely a high 5 for both.

Low stamina makes him a set-up guy though his pitch ratings do scare me a bit. What eventually convinced me is his ability to hold runners and his GB%. If he's coming in to kill a rally in the 8th and he's not gonna strike you out, well with his (at the very least) good control and movement, he'll get an inning-ending double play.

    I liked that.

I expect him to reach the BLB in about three seasons.

I wish you had more early picks in this draft. It's disappointing to see such well thought out analysis be wasted on players who are such obvious AAAA fodder. I did read the whole thing though.

          • It's simply inexcusable that Chris Comacho does not have the nickname "Macho." Please fix this, Clay.

Haha. Yeah, he's gonna be one of those frustrating guys. Definitely not expecting a superstar reliever. But everyone needs a guy that can come in and help...even if it's only 3 out of every 5 times he's out there (with one of those two failed times being a game he blows a three-run lead for you. Ahhhh, don't you love those...)

I'm just teasing. Indy's had your number for years.

                          • I like the last pick of the second round Mcdaniel... Was hopin he would fall into the sandwich round. My scout does not think he's great or even very good and neither does OSA but he put up some real good numbers in college so I will be interested to see how the low ratings high stats translates in his future.

After his freshman year the guy hit .400, .340, .340. He also had OPS+'s of 181 or higher twice and hit 15 bombs and drove in 41 runs one season. He can also according to my scout, play all infield positions above average and has speed.

Same here. Almost picked him at the end of the 2nd round.

                              • That Tony Rodrigues pick by Morgantown is an interesting one in the sandwich round. I had my eye on him but not as a 1B but as an SP with 4-5-6 makeup.
