1981 has been bittersweet for me. I was hoping my team would play .500 ball this year but it looks like we'll finish a bit short of that goal.

On the other hand, I had a quasi-rebuilding effort on my hands after the debacle the previous owner created and I'm fairly happy with the overall make-up of the team and the organization as it stands now. We added a couple of star players in Windley and Bovey and I think we're definitely on the right track.

My A Ball affiliate won their division and the championship so things are starting to look bright for the future.

It looks like I've finally found my starting staff for 1982 with Cafferty, LaRochelle, Ramirez, Colville, and Mayfield. They are all under 30 years of age (in fact, their aggregate age is 25.4 years old) so I'm hoping some of the hard knocks they are taking this year will turn into wins next year. Even my shut-down closer is only 27 years old.

We are 21-25 in one-run games this year so we are playing a lot of close games which should help the team's confidence and character as it grows older going into next season.

My core group of hitters (my entire starting eight as a matter of fact) are all under 30 years old as well so I'm hoping they grow after this year and some of the solid performances they've turned in. I've got a strong nucleus of hitters with Bing, Flores, Windley, Bovey, and now Howard rounding out the first five slots in the order and the All-Star Proenza hitting eigth.

At least next year brings hope.....

The impending loss to free agency of Bovey, Hogan and Rochester led to the decision to begin the rebuilding process earlier than was desirable. I am happy with the trades I made but it looks like it will be at least 5 seasons before I can start thinking of a winning record again. My hope is to be prepared for the day when Windy City and Carolina get old.

Strange year for Jorge, who led the IL in hits allowed and the entire BLB in homers allowed while tying for the IL lead in wins with 18. He easily could have had 20 as the pen blew two big leads for him.

Damn, I actually finished over .500. I still don't know how I'm going to get more starting pitchers though...

And how about Akira Abe, easily the unluckiest pitcher in the league. Finished 5th in the DL in ERA and only gets 8 wins. I'm still trying to figure that one out.

Was just looking at the team by team records....

          - The only team I had a losing record against this year was.... California (1-2)
          - I cleaned up in the division. (59-21, .738)
          - The Lager division gave me a tougher time (42-28 .600)

            Carolina Tobs 8-6
            Davenport Brawlers 7-7
            Hartford Whalers 2-1
            Los Alamos Bandits 9-5
            Los Lunas Javelinas 3-0
            Philadelphia Freedom 15-5
