  • Thoughts on '81?

At this time next week, we'll be prepping for our final export of the 1981 regular season.

    Thoughts?

Personally, I think this season has flown by. It seems like it at least. While there were certainly some hiccups, I thought it went really well from an Owner perspective.

In game... well... I have to be dissappointed by my team. While some individuals improved... the team got worse. Another "better luck next year" season for the Colonials.

A pretty good year for the Washington Bats.

I finished last season 72-90, while this year I am currently 76-61. I may or may not get to second place, but regardless, this team is a lot better than where it was last year.

game, despite it's obvious bugs, worked really well. if it made andrew's life easier, than i'm all for it.

teamwise, very disappointing. tons of errors, bullpen went to shit, couldn't get big hits. team is aging, but a few youngsters made their presence known (Huxham and Brad Taylor).

I agree, once this season got going it went very quickly. I feel like we're finally getting a good handle on 07 and it's quirks. Just in time to start expansion and completely throw things off again. :D

In all serious though, I'm excited about expansion. I think one of the weaker things in the league right now is that all division races were pretty much over by September 1st. Wild Cards will definitely make things more interesting.

Very happy with ownership this year. It looks like we finally got a group that should stick. Although now that I just jinxed us, somebody will drop out tomorrow.

As far as the Guides, I think this is my strongest team yet. Corrigan is the best pitcher in the league right now and Gil O'Moore is really turning into a 1a pitcher. My pitching staff has been solid all around, especially with Frank Kelly turning into one of the best setup men in the league.

My lineup should break the record for runs, which is 965. We have 815 right now so will need to average about 4.7 a game the rest of the way.

I think this might have been the most fun year that we have had. Why?

          - Solid group of owners
          - Owners are now grasping an identity of their team, which leads to interesting trades and management of minors
          - Prospects and building an organization come more into play the deeper you get into the league, starting to feel like our own teams rather than the computer generated one
          - The thread started showing the WC standings, knowing next year some of us other than the Commish might have something to play for
          - I went to Hawaii

Some quirky things have happened, some for the worse, but overall I think the game has improved. When something shitty does happen that is unexpected (or even unfair), just have to remind ourselves that it's a game and we're not even playing for money, just time out of our day.

I look forward to decades of 2nd place fnishes behind the most corrupt team in baseball.

I didn't like it too much. I was given a lot of false hope and am now completely collapsing, and I have no starting pitching. At least Gremades is the best hitter ever.

Although this has been by far my worst season in BLB its probably the season I've enjoyed the most. OOTP 2007 is such a huge leap over 2006 IMO its not even funny. The expansion draft and offseason should be a good time.

My '81 isn't over yet. Thus far, I've done a good job paving the way for younger guys with increasing contracts. We should be a contender for the next few years.

I would like to be a little closer to .500 (or over it for that matter), but overall I feel like this has been a good season. I already have more wins than I did last year. Unfortunately neither O'Connelan or Geake stepped up to be an ace, which remains one of the gapping holes in my team. Hopefully Sakai will be ready to step into that role in a couple years. I did manage to sign Lumar to a more than reasonable deal (considering what FA has been like lately). As the Whale said, it's finally starting to feel like a team I put together instead of what the AI gave me. Now I just need to turn it into a winning team...cause I won't be able to blame the AI anymore.

As far as the BLB overall, I think we are in a good place. The financial situation seems to be on the right track. Hopefully in a couple more seasons the kinks will be worked out and we'll be looking a far more "realistic" league. It'll be interesting to see what the expansion draft does. There also looks to be a few more FA's available than we are used to. It should be a fun offseason.

I think it's been a really good year for the BLB. We've got a great group of owners, and it looks like we won't have any turnover during this season. Definitely a good sign heading into expansion. I'm also looking forward to the expansion process, as it should bring some added excitement to the races.

As for my team, it's been our best season yet (so far). We're in good shape to make the postseason, but I'm not counting anything yet. It'll be an interesting offseason for us, as we have a couple big free agents that I'd like to re-sign. Just a matter if I can afford them.

As has been said here, outside of the game I think this was our best season as a league.

In the game, this season has been crazy for my team. Traded away a lot of older, expensive talent, including the best C in the league. A horrible start, lost my best player for a while to injury, but after all of that, we are still in the playoff race. It's a nice surprise, considering the team had been in steady decline since we won the Championship in 1978. We have one of the best minor league systems in the league and one of the top pitching staffs. Best part is there are only a few players on my team over 30, so we'll be around for a while. I'm looking forward to the challenge of a small market team in a tough division for years to come.

I really enjoyed my pseudo-1st season in the league

OOTP 2007 is so much better than 2006 and I really appreciate what SI has done for online gamers. Also, the group of owners is great here. I just wanted mature, committed owners and this league is as good as it gets in that regard.

I've only been on the periphery here but I already have a feel for the identities of the various teams. From the never say die attitudes of California and Philly to the frustration of Clay, its been a joy. I can't wait to be a part of this league officially.
