  • BLB Best...

Not quite a "what if" but something I was wondering and wanted to see peoples opinion on.

Instead of individual "Bests" like "Best Pitcher or Hitter" which we give awards for I was thinking of microcosims of the teams. Here goes...

    Best Middle Infield...

    Best Overall Team Defense...

    Best Lead-Off Hitter...

    Best Bullpen...

Best 1-2 at the Top of a Rotation...

Best Middle of the Lineup (3-4-5)...

    Best Outfield...

    Best Middle Infield...
Hector Chavez and whoever you put him with....

    Best Overall Team Defense...
Hmmmmm.... would require more research than I'm in a position to do right now.

    Best Lead-Off Hitter...
    Jerry Daly

    Best Bullpen...
    Batavia

Best 1-2 at the Top of a Rotation...
    Pancho and Morgan

Best Middle of the Lineup (3-4-5)...
    Chavez-Woodbury-Maeda

    Best Outfield...
Woodbury-Daly-Whoever is play LF that day
    The Great One!

    To many rings to count...

I like this. Another chapter for the book. I'll get involved if I didn't feel so alone without my laptop to do research on.

Don't sell yourself short Clay. You've got a pretty good bullpen.

I remember when Wilkerson and Toapanta were the best 1-2 in the BLB. The good old days.

I agree with Clay, but Hartford outfield... And Washington defense.

                    Domestic League

Best Middle Infield- None blow me away... Dallas (Taureda, Christian) Pitt (Trujillo, Watts)

                    Best Overall Team Defense- Maine?

Best Leadoff Hitter- Pulling a Clay... Trujillo seems like the most pure leadoff hitter

Best Bullpen- Mississippi... by far have the best stats

Best 1-2 at the Top of the Rotation- Gonna go with Maine alot of good 1-2's in the DL some are a year or two away though i think from being completely dominant. Maine gets it cause they have three really good starters.

Best Middle of the Lineup- Real tough... gonna go with Keppel, Chamissa, Helmrich (88 HR's). Hartford almost a push though with Sau, Hernandez, Knight (85 HR's... they get the next award).

Best Outfield- Hartford... Sau, Hernandez and Knight. All have power and play fairly good defense.

So is best MIDDLE OF THE LINEUP just HRs?

Because honestly, I really think it's not close between my 3 and the rest.

                      1.065, 1.072, .954 OPS.
                      86 combined HRs
                      Over 110 RBI each
                      All over 100 Rs
                      All over 100 BBs
                      Almost 150 combined SBs.
71 or less K's for each

I'd have to dig into every team... but I'd be shocked if anyone can touch these numbers.

Putting my team down for all but one was intended to be tongue-in-cheek... but this is the one that I think is a no-brainer.

I like my OF both offensively and defensively....I also like my 3-4-5 but I don't think they are the best. But they do not only hit for power as Sau and Hernandez both have very high batting averages. Also, despite having a bit of a down year (not MVP type) Durham does a very good job as a switch hitting leadoff man.

Ugh, if Durham could stay healthy, he'd be such a beast. I love that dude. No homo.

I figure my middle is the best in a single-season vacuum. Are they the most appealing to have on your team long-term? Probably not. Woodbury is almost 40 and they cost north of $40 mil, but as a snapshot in time...they are uber-productive.

The other one from my first post that I will defend is Jerry Daly as best leadoff guy. He's getting into that weird Curtis Granderson zone where he may be too good to hit leadoff. But when the dude gets OB, steals north of 70 bags and can hit with some pop...must have leadoff.

Love Durham too. Might be worth considering moving him down the lineup a bit and giving him some run at 1B and DH from time to time to expose him to injury a little less.
