  • Best/Worst Trades?

What are the best and worst trades for your organization?

    For Maine

    Best:
Traded C Colin Cooper, SP Mike Hinchy and MR Joe Soca to Pawtucket for RF Amistad Caballero and C Dave Beacham

Beacham has been my starting C since the trade. While not spectacular, he's shown respectable power and drives in runs. This year has been his best so far with 21 HR and 78 RBI. Amistad Caballero has also made his way into my starting lineup. He's a consistent 20 HR, 80 RBI guy who also won the postseason MVP last year.

Soca was good but was entering FA and wouldn't negotiate with me. I also had a surplus at MR at the time. Colin Cooper is a career .213 hitter and Mike Hinchy was a career 5.35 ERA pitcher and was recently released by Pawtucket.

    Worst:
Traded 2B Joe Proenza to Los Alamos for MR Terry Hassett

Proenza has really come around this year with a .318 BA and .822 OPS. Hassett only pitched 13 ineffective games in a Guides uniform.

Being a Non-Original owner, I don't know the full history of my team... but of all the moves I know GIGGAS made in his run... the one that jumps out at me as WORST is giving up Tim Nathan for a guy who was released within a seaon.

Nathan has only gone like 58-29 since joining Baltimore and has completely owned Virginia.

Best: I traded a good SP prospect in Ezequiel Covtreras (A), a 2nd, 4th and 6th round draft choice to the Dallas Snappers for SP Joe Chavarraga.

My scouts liked the knuckle baller Covtreras, but he has been awful in 1981 for Dallas. 14.02 ERA in AAA and 7.24 ERA in AA.

Chavarraga has been one of the best pitchers in all of the BLB.

Worst: I traded 2.19 and 5.19, along with a 3rd in next years draft to Hyundai for SS Domingo Bandillo.

While both the picks in this years draft were late, and next years 3rd will be mid-late as well, Bandillo has not played well for the Bats. The previous two seasons Bandillo averaged .275, .785 OPS, 19 HR, 90 RBI, 10 SB. This year, he is hitting .217, .595 OPS, 7 HR, 39 RBI, 3 SB.

I honestly don't know that I've won a trade. Pushed a lot. But, I don't know what my "best trade" would be.

I really liked your deal with Hartford.

                Hartford Gets:
                Graciano Salcedo, CL
                $2,000,000 cash

                Virginia Gets:
                Florentino Ledesma, CF, AAA
                Lance Lawson, SP, A
                Hartford's 1st rd - 1981

Salcedo was lights out last year, but he appears to heading downhill at 38. Getting a 1st round pick, (closer of the future Iv?n Reveles), an OF in Ledesma who has played well at the BLB level, and a so-so prospect in Lawson, is a great deal for your team.

Not saying it was a bad deal for the Whalers, just a really good one for the direction you are going.

That's got to be my worst. Reyes isn't even close to the player I thought I was getting, and Gremades has turned into one of the best hitters in the BLB. Really wish I could have that one back.

I don't know what my best is. I guess trading for Nick Latham was a good move, but I still gave up a good amount for him.

What a terrible trade. Although I had no room for Beacham (although Cooper is terrible.) Soca was good while he lasted, little did I know he was a heartless mercenary and I wish I had "Goldmine" right now.

I don't even want to talk about Hinchy.

My Best: A Spring Training trade prior to our first season, back in '78. I traded SP Chuck Chance to the Baltimore Bulldogs for RP Kenshin Krsnich. Krsnich is arguably the league's best closer, while Chance is struggling at AAA for the Bulldogs.

My Worst: It isn't awful, but trading Roger Dieter, Rudy McIlduy, and a 3rd rounder to Sin City for 1B Joe Magallan didn't work out in my favor. My 2B at the time, Earl Eanes, suddenly forgot how to play baseball, while Dieter looks to be a pure hitter at the ripe age of 24. Joe Magallan played well during his short stay in Wilmington but was still way off the pace he had established in the Wiffle Ball League. He's now playing for Los Lunas.
