  • BLB "What If..." #4

You guys feel free to jump in if you think of one....

SCENARIO: You've been named the head of the BLB AWARDS COMMITTEE. Your first job is to rename the 5 major awards in the BLB to honor the history of the league.

WHAT DO YOU NAME EACH AWARD AND WHY?
    The Great One!

    To many rings to count...

    DL Slugger: The Missing Link
DL Pale Ale: The Four Eyes
    IL Slugger: The Doorbell
    IL Pitcher: The IronFist
    J. Allen: The AnStu

I think the dominance at for each has been worthy for the award. I know Pancho is still young but I'm not sure if we'll see that kind of dominance ever again.

Baltimore Bulldogs - BLB since '84
    - Porter Champs: '92, '93, '97, '98, '01, '03, '06, '08, '12
    - Playoffs: '92, '93, '97, '98, '99, '01, '03, '06, '08, '12, '13, '14, '15, '16
    - Brewmaster's Cup: '01

I was actually thinking Pale Ale, Stout Slugger, New Brew, Last Call and JA Wright.

      I wasn't thinking splitting them.

I think the Stout Slugger could eventually be the "Keppel-Woodbury Award" or something.

New Brew I'm not sure we'll ever change.

Last Call is a great name too. But there have been some great options to name it - Vernon Simmonds, "Rock and Roll", Cleary.

Pale Ale would certainly be from those early Maine or Windy City teams.

      AnStu Award is a no-brainer.

I really think the Last Call and New Brew are great names. I'd like to see the Sluggers and Pale Ale changed one day.

BTW, maybe I'm slow but where did "J. Allen Wright" come from?

New Brew and Last Call are perfect unless you rename the Last Call the Vernon Simmonds Award as suggested above.

Simmonds is the perfect name. Not only does he have 500 saves (the only one) and is the all-time leader in saves, but he was also the saves leader in 1978. Just perfect.

Stout Slugger might become the Mel Woodbury Award but I'd honor Hall of Famer Pete Kellum instead.

Pale Ale would definitely be Pancho Herrera if this were being named 15 years from now. But, going with today and again choosing a Hall of Famer, I'd go with Teagan Corrigan who will be inducted this off-season.

Bless your heart. It's a travesty how nobody even remembers the great Pete Kellum any more. Kellum was owning the BLB while Mel Woodbury was still a squirt in his pappy's sack. And now? Kellum's own franchise's owner didn't even include him on his all-time team for crying out loud.

In comparing his stats with any of our modern-day superstars, please keep in mind that Kellum would probably still be playing and closing in on 1500 career HR if he had been managed by the league commissioner during his twilight years. IYKWIMAITYD.

I can't tell anymore if Skerik is mocking me or agreeing with me. I just nod my head and say yes.

Kellum and Hank Stafford was the most cost-effective, valuable pairing in BLB history.
