There have been a bunch of questions about this, so figured I'd give a brief explanation.
- Trades are allowed after the July 31st trade deadline.
- All players being traded must clear waivers first.
- If a player is claimed, the waiving team can either A) Pull him back B) Let him be claimed and lose him or C) Work out a trade with the claiming team.
- If a player is not claimed and clears, he is eligible to be traded for the duration of the regular season.
Gentleman's Rules
- This isn't an actual rule, and I know it won't be followed but figured I'd post it anyways.
- Typically only teams that are legitimately interested in trading for a player make claims. Although if the person is using auto-pullback, that won't work either since the player will be pulled back.
- The only case where a team who isn't interested in acquiring a player to make a claim would be to block a rival's move if you're in a pennant race.
- So for you guys that think you're going to get one of these guys on waivers, the only thing you're accomplishing by claiming a Harry Keppel or Dan Jones is pissing people off.
The Waivers system is something I want to take a look at for next season. It doesn't work like it should with our current waiver time and the auto pullback option.
