5-1 sim puts us 2 games up in the Pilsner.

Honestly, I hate it. We're not a solid squad. Our pitching is horrific. Our bullpen is full of underachievers and fading retreads. Our bench is full of guys that couldn't start in AAA. The same thing happened last year, a hot start before fading down the stretch to a .500 finish. It's going to happen again. We're not good.

But, there are a few bright spots.

SP Marv Metcalf - a throw-in in the Gugs/Underwood deal last year - is blossoming as a starter. ERA under 2 and a WHIP under 1.

1B Rex Morgan leads the league in HRs with 12. 1.012 OPS as well.

OF rub Martinez is second with 11 and is just plain raking. I tried telling you jackholes about him last year. 1.012 OPS (like Morgan) with 35 RBI in 36 games. Power to the gaps. I love this dude.

OF Fakhretdin Tetradze had a tough week, but has been surprisingly serviceable this year. Hitting .312 with a .388 OBP with 8 steals.

3B Dusty Campbell with a .909 OPS including a .436 OBP this year as well.

    Hell, maybe we are decent.

20-18...good enough for last place in the Ale. Waiver pick-up Brad Hayes throws a complete game shutout and late FA signee Antonio Romo bats .333 w/ 1 homer and 7 RBI.

I'll take it. Hopefully we can hold on until Lindsey comes back in a month.

          Baltimore Buldogs 3-3 (18-20, T-4th 5 GB)

2-1 vs. Wilmington and 1-2 vs. Morgantown.

Its been a while since we were this far out of 1st place, this early in the season. But its a long season, and it looks like our bullpen is starting to come around a bit.

          The Good

-Our pitching was lights out last week, but since our offense was no where to be found, it didn't translate into wins. We had three starters post ERA's of under 2.60 for the week, including Lonnie Grady who went 14 innings with just 3 earned runs but had two no decisions because the offense was anemic.

-Rookie reliever, Danny Rodriquez was shell-shocked in his first major league appearance against Washington on 4/10/1995 giving up 7 hits, 6 runs (4 ER) in just 1.2 innings, in an 11-6 win. His next eye opener came against another Stout opponent, Virginia, where he gave up 3 hits and 5 earned runs in just .2 innings of work. Although the Bulldogs won both games, the youngster's leash was reigned in a bit and since that point, Rodriquez has only given up 1 earned run in the last 12 innings of work.

          The Bad

          -
Our hitting was horrendous last week. Our offense is supposed to be our strongest point but it didn't look that way last week. Now granted, we did play against 3 of the better pitchers in the IL in Lloyd, Coates and Howell, but I expect more from this offense when we are at home.

          -The Ugly

-Donnie Greene injured himself pitching in a game last week and will be out for 3-4 weeks. I should've known there was something wrong since his consistency wasn't there this year. I probably should have given him more rest. I definitely do so when he gets back.

          -The Minors

-In light of Greene's injury, former 1st round pick, Lonnie Fowler will make his big league debut. Fowler ended last year as one one the hottest pitchers in the Lautering Union and was promoted to AAA Annapolis because of it. He continued his hot pitching in AAA going 4-2, with 2.48 ERA, 1.33 WHIP in 54 innings. Fowler is slated to make his first career big league start Sunday against Washington.

          Up Next

We head to Davenport first to play our first season series against 1st place Davenport. After that we come back home and host the early wildcard race leader, the Washington Bats.

          Prediction: 2-4.
