Washington Bats (7-5; 1 GB)
3-0 vs. Los Alamos
1-2 @ Windy City
Not a bad sim. I'll take 4-2 every time. Both losses were 0-1, one of which was in extras. Hate losing the close ones, but better than a blowout. Oh, Spot, this is for you:
THE GOOD
Anyone familiar with Marv Bowers? You will be. After a solid rookie campaign that saw the former 4th round pick hit .277 in 148 games, Bowers has started out his sophomore season on a mission. After winning IL Player of the Week in Sim One, he is now hitting .375 with a .907 OPS. In even better news, my scout thinks his potential went up. Boom.
Remember Len Jenkins? Well, he's back. Start #1 line: 8 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, 3 BB, 3 K, in a win over Baltimore. Solid, but not spectacular. Start #2 line: 9 IP, 0 ER, 4 H, 1 BB, 3 K in a win over Los Alamos. I don't know how he does it, but he is doing it again in '95.
THE BAD
Could too much pitching be a BAD thing? I guess it's a good problem to have. Late in Free-Agency I got aggressive and signed Norm Winters, Scott Brady and Ed Colville. Winters has pitched well enough to remain in the six-man rotation, and Brady will likely stick on as a RP/mop-up but I really don't have room for Colville. I could have used an extra hitter in those two one-run losses to Windy City, and Colville sitting on the bench isn't helping. I hate to say I'm "waiting" for an injury, but I got too many guys for too few spots.
I thought Sammy Knowlton had turned the corner. A borderline top 100 prospect, Knowlton made his BLB debut last season and this year was invited to Spring Training, where he flourished. But so far, two sims into the BLB season, he isn't getting it done. With R.A. Grounds soon to be pissed about not starting, I might have to send Knowlton down to Triple-A.
THE UGLY
Michio Nago is out for the season. Not a huge loss from a performance standpoint, my outfield was pretty crowded as is but I love Nago. Him and Grounds have been with this club for so long.
THE MINORS
Let's just say...it's lookin' good. Eight players on the top 100, and personally, I really like my org prospects beyond them. Deep.
NEXT WEEK
A week in the Stout...Three @ Morgantown and Four @ Wilmington. The Stout is deep again and these are no gimmies. I think I'll probably go 1-3 at Morgantown and 3-1 @ Wilmington but it could really go either way.
