To be fair, I released Seltzer's albatross contract and had intended to do that for next season where the loss wouldn't have been noticed under the budget.

I still plan to operate as if $20 MM is allocated to his salary.

The Denver front office is even struggling with simple procedural tasks like player releases these days.

That's why the League Office has opted not to help finance his BLB book. His poor money management skills have forced the League to officially view it as "unofficial" and rogue.

I broke the fair-play rule because I hated looking at Seltzer and he would block my "prospects" in the minor leagues.

But, I always intended to honor that rule by acting as if the release was filed when the new budget came out.

So I see a budget of $94 MM and I consider it 74.

edit: Actually, my budget is $95 MM. So I look at it as $75.

That's right, small market baseball in Denver for at least one season. Hey, why not? We already play like it.

                    So dumb question coming...

What the Fuck does this mean? What should this tell me? How does this effect them in the coming years? Especially what does this mean for the mile high team?

It means Carlos (Denver) is a douchebag.

What does it technically mean....it means these owners are in violation of "FAIR PLAY". We use to have rules and penalties in place for it, but it was a nightmare to police. Plus, punishing a team for being a non-profit, by taking more money was pointless.

Now, we specifically state that every team needs to make a legitimate effort to be profitable. In most of these cases, bad teams and dropping attendance was really what killed them. They weren't really irresponsible. A couple more wins and Maine and Los Lunas would have been closes. Other guys really would be more in question because they continued to make trades and acquire payroll/expense, even when it was obvious they weren't going to make profit.

Long story short.... we don't DO anything (besides the public shaming)... but it is a reminder to the Owners that they need to attempt to be profitable.

Mine is definitely a result of lowered attendance (just look at the drop. It's large) and lowered merchandise sales combined with the $20 MM Seltzer release.

                        It happens.

Thats exactly what happened to me. I was in the black before mid season when I released 3 shitty coaches and a poorly signed free agent. Then the wheels fell off the wagon and attendance dropped from 30k a game to 20k. What fan doesn't want to see a quality losing team?!

It's the personnel thing too. People kind of haphazardly fire coaches and that really, really impacts the bottomline.

Correct! I did that in 89 with coaches. In the end it was a long term investment since my coaches sucked. Still, not sure coaches mean all much just yet. Time will tell
