NEXT SIM: MONDAY (9/19) @ Noon

    ***

For the 6th SIM in a row... at least one team had 26 at a Minor League level... congrats to B'More (AAA) for keeping the streak alive. Because of Baltimore's indiscretion, we'll be taking the next two SIMs off. So, everyone thank Prez for wrecking it for everyone.

So... anyway... we are off till Next Monday. Sorry, Fellas.

So, I have to look at that for a week before we get a chance to redeem ourselves? Absolutely shit the bed this week. Very disappointing. Still somehow 3 games back in the WC, but we appear to be done.

Pawtucket 5-2. We FINALLY caught someone.

LF Darryl Calhoun had a monster week and the timing couldnt of been better. This makeshift lineup is now 8-5 with one player each coming back next 3 sims.

If we sneak in the postseason the pitching staff gets the MVP vote. Who would ever of thought Pawtucket would be a pitching team????

        Muckducks.....what a dirty squad.

        Baltimore's Kubota Out 6-7 Weeks
Tuesday, August 30th, 1994: The Baltimore Bulldogs were dealt a severe blow when Kyoden Kubota was hurt colliding with a player at a base recently in a game against the Batavia Muckdogs. After the game, the team trainer reported Kubota might have to spend a lengthy time on the disabled list. Today doctors confirmed it, ruling the 31-year-old catcher out for the rest of the season with a fractured finger. They indicated it would take Kubota at least 6-7 weeks to heal.

Kubota currently has a .299 batting average with 130 hits, 15 homers, 75 RBIs, 81 runs scored and a .434 OBP.

It appears the AAA playoffs did not go according to league plans. It went straight to a Final Four tournament for each conference.

edit: I take it back. 8 of the top teams qualify. I knew this. I guess I thought it was 8 from each conference especially considering the Standings page has 16 teams clinching a playoff appearance.

Happy to go 5-2. Not happy to lose the only good starting pitcher I have for the rest of the year.

Baltimore Bulldogs (72-64 overall, 5 GB in Porter, T-1st in wildcard)

Losing 2 out of 3 to Batavia did not help our chances to repeat as Porter champs, but winning 3 of 4 in Philadelphia did help us catch back up in the race for the final wildcard spot. Looks like it may be photo finish down the stretch.

              The Good

-Mile High Products: I'm not really sure where we'd be without the play of Donnie Greene and Lonnie Grady. Both pitchers pitched well for us this week, both going 8 innings and getting the wins. Ironically, both were groomed through the Denver Bulls' minor league system.

              The Bad

              Time To Step Up:
Baltimore catcher, Kyoden Kubota's season may be ending early as he has been diagnosed with fractured finger on his left hand after sliding into 2nd base against Batavia. The injury is expected to keep him out for at least 6 weeks. 2nd year catcher, Wally McChoiter has played very well in limited action, and will be leaned on to play well down the stretch.

              On The Farm

-A number of AAA players have been called up for the September roster expansion. Most notably for Baltimore, Dantel Casteneda, their 1st round pick in 1989, is getting a shot to show what he can do in limited action. Not much is expected of the kid who has not lived up to the expectations of the organization.

              What's Next

Losing Kubota has taken a bit of wind out of our sails, but we aren't out of it yet. We have a full schedule with 7 games on the slate next week: 2 at home against Batavia, 2 in California, and then 3 in Virginia. We need to take care of business.

I'm buying stock right now in:
                - Batavia in the Brewmaster's
                - DC and B'more frittering away the WC.

I expecting a lot of good conversation/discussion during this SIM hiatus.

                    Some things I'm watching....

                    - Mel Woodbury pulls within 7 of Harry Keppel on the all-time HR list. Since Pawtucket killed Harry Keppel, Woodbury looks like a lock to overtake "Link" before either one hang up the spikes.

                    - Former Colonials favorite Dale O'Hegarty needs just one 3B to take over 1st place alone on the all-time list.

                    - Jerry Daly has 70 steals this season. He's on pace for 83. Most thought the record of 87 back in the free running early days of the BLB would never be touched.... I'm not sure it's not within reach.

                    What are you watching?

I'm watching Zamarida stink it up and wondering if he will reach 400 homeruns before season's end.

I'm watching to see if our all out collapse worsens. We'll catch fire the last two weeks and lose about 6 spots in the draft.

Denver is on pace to eclipse the 100-loss mark for the first time in franchise history. Disappointing and there's very little the team can do to prevent that from happening.

Carolina Tobs- 5-2 this week (63-73 overall)

-Good week, we swept 3 @ Davenport before splitting 4 vs the Bandits.

                              The Good

-August was by far our best month of the season. Along with California, our 18-9 mark for the month was the best in the BLB. I don't have records for it or anything, but I have to imagine it's the best month the Tobs have had in years. If it wasn't for our 6-20 July, we might be in position to make it interesting in terms of a playoff push. As it is, we're just losing valuable draft position.

-I mentioned him last sim I think, but Rod Phillips' hot streak continued, as he hit 2 HRs and had an OPS of 1.048. Since the break, he's posted a line of .309/.425/.530. There's a good chance I'll be moving him this offseason, so if you're interested go ahead and let me know.

                              The Bad

-Probably my fault, but my rotation got screwed up. Val Aparicio started twice in the 4 game Los Alamos series. We won both games he started and he pitched well, but I don't want him out there that often obviously. I probably screwed something up in the 7-day lineups.

-Dana Scott's struggles continued. He was one of the stars at the beginning of the season, but predictably he's cooled off. Most of my lineup hit very well in August, Scott didn't as he had a .210 BA and a .568 OPS.

                              The Ugly

-We lost Alex Rivas for the rest of the season, in all likelihood. He tore a hamstring while running the bases against Davenport and is out for 5 weeks. If that's it for Rivas, then we're happy with his first year in Carolina. After coming over from Syracuse on May 2nd, he went 11-5 with 3.09 ERA in Carolina.

                              On The Farm

-The season is over for Carolina's minor league affiliates, as the AA Charleston Rebels lost a heartbreaking series to Bar Harbor and AAA Winston-Salem was eliminated by Richmond.

                              Up Next

We continue to play against the division, with 2 vs Davenport followed by 2 @ Windy City before coming back home for 3 against Wilmington. I think we match up ok against these teams, but who knows.
