Why, it's almost as if someone would be advantaged at this game by spending 20 hours a day playing with OOTP while running 500 test seasons per week and meticulously analyzing every AB from every game. Frankly it's amazing that anyone not named Clay ever wins this league at this point. The only reasons anyone else ever does are pure luck, and because he's occasionally hamstrung by his budget.

Any one of us (except maybe funclown) could do the same thing given the time. This is like hailing that guy who cracked the code on "Press Your Luck" and won an ungodly amount of money before they changed their algorithms as some kind of genius. The guy wasn't a rocket scientist - he drove a fucking ice cream truck. But guess what that meant. He had a shit-ton of time to watch game shows and study how their algorithms work.

I'm not revealing much, but Padilla is one of a few players I focused on to figure out why, or rather which, players are likely to decline the same way. Much like figuring out which players can play at a high rate into their 40s while others hit the wall at 32.

Players like Padilla are the ultimate bad stripper experience because you've been watching them for some time, then finally you get to see a show of their talents up close and personal and you're getting this amazingly close look at the entire package, only to then see the top drop off and want out as soon as possible. Too bad that by then you've already spent your entire paycheck.

It reminds me of a certain person in the FOF world that everyone loves to hate!

He starts out every discussion..."well I simply made a test league and ran 100 seasons last night...and therefore you can plainly see that I am right..."

I'm confused. Did you read my posts? I challenged his theory and then said it makes sense that someone can start to notice patterns when the game is made of algorithms. Which is exactly what you said, though you expanded on him simming seasons of seasons because of free time.

Not sure where I praised him. If anything, I was pretty sure I was getting real close to getting Clay to quitting again.

To be fair I've never made a test league to simulate the BLB. I've had single player leagues, but never one that mirrored the BLB.

My opinions on the BLB is based simply on experience in the league AND research based on events that have already happened. I'm observant and like finding patterns in statistics. When the game is based on algorithms, the logical thing to do is look for them.

That being said... that's over complicating how I built a winner. I built a team to fit my stadium... I drafted high... I traded for superstars... It's not rocket science or 20 hours of SIMs. It's logic. If you have short porch in RF and deep gaps... get left handed hap hitters that can run. If you have deep fences, you don't have to be hung up on GB%... when you bring them in, GB% becomes a factor. It's not complicated, it's logic.

Clay has more posts explaining how he became a winner than anyone else has posts.

P.S. I built this team LOOOOONG before I was home-based. So the "so much time" thing really doesn't hold water. In the time I've been at home, I've won ZERO championships. Just sayin'.

I have a Macro that just reposts the same one.

I know many would have me stop sharing my opinions... but I thought that was the fun of the league.

                      • I can't believe we've all taken the high road and nobody has joked about how Clay re-runs sims during this discussion. I'm really proud of all you guys. To Carlos, I wasn't talking to just you. It just continually seems like a lot of people are mystified at how Clay has somehow figured out things about the game, but most of it is common sense like he posted above.

By the way - what's the tiebreaker for waiver claims when two teams have identical records? Just....curious....

                        • ...anyway as for "lack of buyers" this season... was true, but I've seen worse trade deadlines in the 5.5 seasons since I've been here. Usually its triggered by fast rising teams and a all out firesale from a team thats been ontop for several seasons. (Pitt & Paw rising 91, also Wilington firesale same season made that an active year)

None of that was the case this year. Just another year of same teams rebuilding and same teams looking for bits and pieces. Hartford was as close to a firesale team as we had and it wasn't an all out blow up team.

                          Just my thoughts.
