NEXT SIM: Monday - Files Due @ Noon

    ***

Monday's SIM will be late in the evening/night. Keep that in mind. That will force a pretty quick turn around between Monday and Wednesday.

The trade deadline is going to fall on the last day of Wednesday's SIM - keep that in mind.

5-2. 52-39, still two games in front of hard charging Syracuse in the DL WC standings.

    - 3.2 scoreless IP from Doug Ellis. Bullpen is looking kind of nice now.

    - My scout thinks Art Williams sucks. But every time I bring him up, he hits.

    - Backup C Jerry Craig now sports a slash line of .388/.475/.612 in 49 AB this season with 9 BB and 2 K's.

    - Recent draft pick Alex Martinez, rushed to the majors, responds with 7.2 IP of shutout ball in his first start at AAA Montreal. Hoping he won't be there for long.

    - Chad Henderson, tapped to take Martinez's place, responds with two wins this week including a quality start against Hartford.

    - Dewitt Dunlap is healthy again.

      Nothing to see here.

I love how a guy can go from lights out in his last four starts to AA pitcher in his next two.

We go 4-2 and still lose a game on Batavia.

Gil O'Moore picks up his 200th career W while finally bringing his season ERA under 4.00. He got off to such a bad start it's been a struggle to see his numbers round into shape, but as everyone is fond of saying around here, water finds its level.

Our level is so low, my team can't handle the pressure.

5-1...winning simply on pitching. Everyone is throwing well except CL Ken Bayer and his 5.05 ERA.

We're in the midst of our 20 days/20 games stretch. The dog days of summer are here.

#5 Starter (former reliever) Glen Farrell , who has really been solid for us, has likely thrown his final pitch in a Colonial uniform. His injury should keep him out the rest of the season. He'll be missed.

The loss of Farrell leaves a spot in the rotation which will be filled by the BLB Debut of Freddie Boehmer. Boehmer, who has spent 3 years on the BA Top 100 list (peaked at #51), will come up and slide into the rotation. Not sure Boehmer is a long term answer especially considering his 3 shoulder injuries in the minors, but he's what we have to finish the season.

                  Baltimore Bulldogs (49-42, Porter-2GB)

                  3-0 v Carolina
                  1-2 a Davenport

-Any 4-2 week is a good week to me. Offensively, we had a great week. We hit .321 as a team with a .375 OBP. I can't complain about a week like that, even if we did fall another game behind Batavia. Its probably about time to start peeking out to see that wildcard race as well.

                  The Good

The Other Side of the Coin
                  - This past week, we moved struggling star, Loren Wallace from hitting 7th to 2nd. He responded with a big week. Hitting .348 with 7 RBI was the best I've seen Wallace play to date. Since the All-Star break, Wallace has gone 12/35 (.343) with 4 double, 1 triple, 2 home runs and and a team leading 11 RBI. It is a small sample size, but when he's hitting like this, we can really score some runs. Here's to hoping he has a monster 2nd half of the year.

                  They Play Baseball in Hawaii?
-Brad Antell has quietly been one of the more surprising players in the IL this year. Antell, who was born in Hawaii, is in his second year in the majors and is playing extremely well. With a top ten average in the IL (8th), Antell leads all 2nd basemen in RBI (51). 7 of those 51 came in last weeks play, where Antell also hit .480 for the week.

                  The Bad
-Our pitching wasn't awful, just bad this week. JJG has been horrible this year. An ERA of 5.69 with on 44% quality starts, he's gone into a tailspin that I'm not sure he'll recover from this year. Last week, he gave up 9 hits, 6 runs and 4 walks in just 5.1 innings. Sure JJG isn't a #1 pitcher, but one thing we could usually count on from him was consistency. That is not the case this year.

                  The Ugly
-Overall, our starting pitching is still atrocious. I'm going to have to make a big decision one way or another very soon.

                  The Week Ahead
-Last week started a summer stretch where we play 22 straight. Next week we've got 3 at home against Morgantown, then we head to In-And-Out Field to play California. Should be fun.
