Pancho Perez goes down with an injury and we win 11 straight games. Makes sense. Thanks to Don O'Finegan for picking up the slack this week in garnering DL POTW honors.

We are also encouraged by Glen "Coffin" Harrington's performance thus far, including a scoreless 2-inning performance against Hyundai during which he struck out 4. The 1992 first rounder was summoned in response to our bullpen troubles this season and he looks like he's up to stay.

In other news, Dewitt Dunlap continues mashing and now leads the entire BLB in total bases and RBIs. Only 11 BB on the season, but he ain't up there to walk!

Oh, and LOL at the DL doubles leaderboard.

Almost glad there is a break right now.

Pawtucket 3-4. Was actually happy for some odd reason.

Some strange trends as we near the 1/3 mark:

-5 PytRec. I don't value this much. Just gives me a general sense if we are playing over our heads, underachieving or...its just who we are. I feel this is where water finds its level, but getting a bit concerned. Maybe this is our year to suck?

Runs Scored 223/ Runs allowed 216. All offset by our mindboggling 6-17 one loss record. Again thinking water finds it level, but again terrible timely hittng (Think we have been shutout 4 times already) and a little issue going on with Caden Hill (This will be dealt with) maybe its just who we are?

Pretty good pitching vs Not so good hitting. Didn't see this one coming. Maybe on my next scouting report I'll see a bunch of hitters lose they're contact rating with scout verbage "This guy has lost it, shoot him". Moved the lineup around just a bit and did see some improvement, but just a little.

ROAD WOES. We started 8-5 on the road and all was calm at that time. Since then 2-15 with really nothing big happening. With a slew of road games coming up in early June if we don't figure this one, we could be sellers come mid-June.

Have a great vacation Clay! Couldn't of asked for better timing!

3-4 heading into the Clay break.

1 game behind Baltimore. If we could get any offense out of Buzzell, I'd like our chances... but the talent may have already run out for him.

Lost 4 games 3 by 1 run. Bullpen continues to mystify me.

Good news we have our 2nd Playboy crack the top players list in as many weeks. Welcome Cristian Rivera. May your stay be long and injury free.

Our two big offseason aquisitions have sucked. If those guys ever hit we'll be lethal. Without pitching it won't matter.

Excellent point. Well, considering the damage the TJ Surgery had on Gray, I'm fully expecting that my only capable young starter is ruined so no need to worry about that anymore.

And just realized that TJ not only stands for the organizations former GM, as you highlighted, but for the name of the surgery that has ruined my starter.

There's bad karma all around here.

4-3 week for the Tobs. Not bad. I expected a tough series at Washington and we were lucky to get one win, then we came home to take 3 of 4 from the Playboys, which is always nice.

At 24-27, this is about where I expected this team to be. We're slowly turning the corner here in Carolina. Only 1 game back in the division, maybe we can make a run this year given that the Bock has slipped back down at the moment.

                      Notables this week:

Rod Phillips finally pulled his head out of his ass and had a good week. I'm not panicking over his slow start as he's a good player. I hope this is the start of a hot streak for him. He's due.

Ismael Reyes only hit .194 this week, but he added 3 more homeruns. He's having a good season and I would say he deserves All-Star consideration. 2nd in the IL in HR and Total Bases, 1st in Extra Base Hits. Somehow he also has 4 triples, despite being the slowest man on the team. He's a bit of a late bloomer, but he may be turning into the player I'd hoped for.

Masaoki Matsumoto hit .444, he's doing fairly well for an under the radar rookie.

On the farm, Val Aparicio continues to pitch very well in AAA. He picked up his 2nd shutout of the season, this time a 4-hitter with 9 Ks and 2 BBs. He had one awful start in which he gave up 7 earned runs in 1.2 IP, but is 6-2 with a 2.26 ERA and 0.92 WHIP. He also has 3 of the top 7 performances in AAA this season. He's making it difficult to keep him in the minors.

"Doorbell" wins another Player of the Week award leading the Colonials to a 5-2 week. Still seeing some crap outings from the bullpen, but we're making some hay in the Stout (finally).

Speaking of Woodbury... I've been closely watching his pursuit of Keppel's HR record as this week he pulls within 15 of the "(Even more) Missing (Now that he's in Pawtucket) Link". However, not that it really means anything.... but if you combine BLB, Post-Season and Minor League numbers... Woodbury now has 496 "Professional" HRs.

I thought we were turning a corner with defense and pitching. Then the inevitable boneheaded move by our manager, starts our best performing MR for 2 games leaving the bullpen wide open for 7 days of pure meltdown.

We are remarkably mediocre and have been all season (as are a ton of teams in the league it seems). The starting rotation continues to do its job, though starters 2-5 are having to pull a bit more than their fair share due to a very inconsistent start to the season by Gil O'Moore. Even with his bloated 6+ ERA our starting rotation leads the league in ERA.

Our bullpen is another story as it just continues to hemorage runs on a frequent basis. I had no delusions that our gaggle of relief pitchers were going to be a shutdown/lockdown type operation, but I did feel they would at least be serviceable. That certainly hasn't been the case so far as it always seems to be a new guy each night who just gets absolutley torched.
