I think that there are a lot of guys like this in the league that just don't get the chance due to the turnover rate in our minors.

It's almost like we need an independent league.

This one is particularly interesting to look back on.

Actually, one guy on our A level team is showing some signs- catcher Roberto Goto. I don't think he'll be anything special, but my scout is coming around on him and he's hitting pretty well. Undrafted in 93, picked up and released by Washington in 94. A long way away from being relevant in the BLB.
Damn...I remember him...very brief D.C. career. Improved with OSA and my scout over the last few seasons. Probably doesn't have the work ethic/intelligence to reach those potentials but definitely someone to hang onto

So I signed this kid C Troy Smalley and apparently OSA really likes him. He instantly becomes the #59th top prospect in the BLB. Formerly a 2nd round pick of our friends in Canada. Thanks Spear!

Any divisional burn is worth a second post.

He's been rotting away in the Minors for some time now. We may have extracted every last bit of self confidence out of him. Good luck!

My scout never liked him to be honest. But did put up some good numbers in Single A, that's one thing he's got going for him.

              .

I will be kicking myself if we are saying the same thing about Smalley in a couple seasons.

                SP - Robby Collins

                Original draft: 2000 draft/ round 9- pick 2 Pittsburgh.

Drafted at a time Pitt had prospects falling out of the ski. Didn't impress the single A coaches as soon as he walked off the bus and looked like Java the Hut (270lbs) so he was cut less then 30 days in his young career without throwing a single pitch. Picked up by Pawtucket one month later as the usual teenage filler.

Had 3 ho-hum seasons at Lowell, but he kept picking up things according to OSA. Still, stats never reflected any progress so management decided to move to Lawrence. Well, his first full season in AA the light appeared to come on going 14-1/ 2.63 era/ 163K with only 5 homeruns allowed and won 2004 MASH pitching award to boot. Even more encouraging was his move to the baseball top 100 making him officially the lowest draft pick we ever had to hit the top 100 least since I took over.

Now...one season doesnt make a trend, but he got our attention. Heck he's even creeped up the top list a bit since the season ended. My hunch, he falls off the list when the stats reset, but we've decided to give him some spring training coming up and decide later this season if he's ready for AAA. He's only 22 and as you know Pawtucket likes to cook for awhile.

                In summary: THANKS MWETTS!!!!

                        Danny Martinez (OF)

Selected in the 7th round of the 2000 Draft by Davenport, Danny was drafted straight out of high school from his native country of Venezuela. After making the long trip here and ready to start his new life, Danny was shocked to find out that Davenport had already cut him the very next day. Luckily for Danny, he was contacted a little under two months later by the Baltimore organization and offered a minor league contract.

Danny played just 1/2 of a season in Orlando (A) before being promoted to Camden (AA). Danny only spent one year in Camden before again being promoted to Annapolis (AAA). Danny continued to impress in 2003 and in 2004, was given a September call up to the BLB.

Fast forward to this season with an aging Angelo Barrios struggling with injury, Martinez has made the most of his opportunity hitting .310 on the year while picking up both April and May IL ROM Awards in the process. A switch-hitter, Martinez has been a terror to opposing pitchers when he hits at the top of the order, also swiping six bags in the process. His defense is average at best, but his ability to swing the bat is undeniable.

Does he have the ability to continue playing at this level? Baltimore sure hopes so.

Thanks for the trash, Davenport (don't know if it was nelms or Spear).

I was gone in '98 so this is Nelmsm's drafting and releasing..

Come on man, keep that Davenport winning tradition alive! We used to go all out and win the division with a sub .500 record while Jistic was breeding the bunnies he has today.
