  • HOF Voting - 1994

It's Spring Training and that can only mean one thing: roster crippling injuries suffered during meaningless games! Ok maybe two things then, injuries and Hall of Fame Voting.

Take your time, review the candidates and submit your ballots here. We need every owner to vote, even if you wish to submit a blank ballot.

Players must be named on 80% of the ballots in order to be inducted (20 of 24 if all teams submit). A player must receive 50% support in order to remain on next year's ballot if he fails to receive enough support for induction. (This year's holdovers are C Malachi Stiver and RP Jon Cleary). We have several new generation owners amongst us now so the discussions of where these players fit into the first generation of players may be useful.

Take a moment to review this year's potential class members and feel free to publicly discuss the merits of any player. We've set a high bar for induction so no candidate's chances can be taken for granted.

The voting utility will remain open throughout ST and we'll close the polls once Opening Day is here next Monday.

    On this year's ballot:

    2B Amato Albors
    2B Neto Bermeo
    1B Frank Hamlet
    OF Subaru Hiraki
    2B Charlie MacCabe
    1B Eddie O'Fallon
    OF Dave Robbins
    C Malachi Stiver
    3B Miguel Sylvestrie

    RP Jon Cleary
    RP Grant Lewis

    Good luck gentlemen!

I agree, but his trend is not good 17 votes in his first year, only 13 last year.

These early eligible classes are VERY Maine heavy.

If this league still had more of its original owners, Cleary would already be in the HoF.

I think that is the main reason some of these pioneers are falling short on votes. It's a shame, but it is what it is.

Old timers need to do a better job selling it.

Well Stiver and Cleary are at 100% at the moment, so we might be good this year.

I voted for all 4 of the guys who've gotten votes this year. I thought both closers deserved to go in. Sure, they're not as good as Cabezas, but who is?

I like the closers. They did it early and I think it's incredibly difficult to have a closer pick up 400+ saves, make a numerous amount of All-Star teams (meaning they were always one of the best closers, never outmatched by a young up-and-comer with a great year), and do it with great overall numbers.

I still think Stiver needs to get in because he did it old when most catchers in our league are beginning to fall apart.

Here's a few stats on Stiver who came into the league at 31.

The following stats are for all players after turning 31 years of age.

He is second all-time among catchers in hits, only trailing future HOF Sergio Lumar.

                          In OPS+ he's first.

His durability was amazing as he has the most starts behind the plate for all catchers and the only one with over 1,000 games there.

So sure, career-wise, there are other younger catchers with higher OPS+ (Phillips, Calderon, Murdock) and others with more career hits, but what makes Stiver so special is he did it as an old man and no one but Sergio Lumar has been capable of doing the same.

Hey guys, we're going to go ahead and open up player specific threads for discussion. That way if a player gets held over year to year we have the historical thread each year of the discussion that took place. Feel free to pop in and share thoughts and support for players you believe belong. Like
I said earlier, we have a new generation of owners that may not be as intimately familiar with some of these names.

In the history of Major League Baseball, there are 5 - five - hall of fame relievers. Since 1939.

So sure, let's induct our second and third relievers in our fourth HOF class.
