Pawtucket 4-3. End of July always a tough sim for us. Kind of makes me laugh that Pitt owns us this year. To bad they suck.

17-9 July despite all these injuries. We press on.....

Washington Bats (58-47; 1 GB of WC)

        1-2 @. Wilmington
        3-1 @ Virginia
Not sure the last time I won a series in Virginia. The Bats now lead the season series six to five as well.

        The Good
-Recently acquired CF Marlon Dixon is from another planet. After 77 games with the Freedom this season, he was hitting .214, 54/252. In his first two weeks with the Bats, he is hitting .489, 27/43, five doubles, a triple three steals and more walks than strikeouts. Did I mention that he won the Gold Glove award in CF last year as well?

-It's been highlighted before but ever since signing a contract extension, Mike Murdock has been back to his old ways. On July 15th, the day he signed, he was batting .267 with a .740 OPS. After just two weeks, those numbers are now .292 and .804. He won IL Player of the Week.

-I don't know how he does it but P.J. Brooks continues to surprise me. One season he wants to be in the pen. The next, start. The next, the pen. Like every other year past, he has done both for the Bats this season. He's won his last four starts, giving up just three earned in those games. He has a BB:K ratio of roughly 2:1 but he is tough to hit.

        The Bad
-SP Nate Taylor made his return from a three-month DL stint to get roughed up. I think it was just rust and the Bats were shutout anyways but not the best sign.

-Rookie outfielder Shawn Burton is finding out what BLB pitching looks like. After a fast start the rookie has struggled. He will stay at the BLB level because there is nothing left to learn in the minors but he won't be starting so much.

        The Ugly
-MR Caleb Alston might have lost it. The ratings are there from both my scout and OSA but the guy is pitching batting practice out there. His typical BLB ERA is under three but this year it's more than double.

        The Farm
-22nd overall prospect CF Marv Bowers continues to rake. He's now hitting better at Triple-A then he has at any level. BLB be warned.

        The Transaction
-Two weeks after trading for Marlon Dixon, Washington signs a poor man's Dixon, in Orlin Montero, formerly of Denver. Speed, defense and no power. Pinch runner, defensive specialist, lefty and wants to be on the bench. I'll take it.

        The Week Ahead
-Three vs. Los Alamos, three @ Philly. If the Bats are to make the playoffs, their first round opponent would likely be the Bandits. It's at home and I got some good pitching for the match-up but it'll be a dog fight. Then the Bats travel to Philly where the baseball team has already given up. I like my chances for a good week.

Took 2/3 from New Orelans then split a four game set with Los Lunas. Highlight of the week was putting up a 20 spot against New Orleans.

            6-1 sim.

            Welcome to Davenport Zach Etheridge..........

            8/21 w/ 2 HR 9 RBIs in the first 6 games as a Brawler. I know it's a small sample size but it's a nice one.

I think we've finally surpassed the Playboys in the standings for the first time this year? But we need to look away from the Bock and focus on the Wildcard at least until those Bandits learn how to lose some more games (not just the ones they play against us ).

Well, the good news of the sim is that Carbajal's demands have gone up three weeks after his injury. Because that's normal.

I was going to give him 5 years worth of Golden Corral gift cards for his kids as a bonus, but I thought it might be looked down upon by the contract guys around here.

I always look down on you no matter what you do.

Except in the standings. Been looking up a lot this year and a number of others.

We are happy to see the lead cut to 6. Pitching and hitting better. Still nine games under though.

                        Yeah, yeah.

The disappointment was overpowering after sweeping Windy City only to get swept by you.
